Normal for hummers to do?

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Yesterday I was in my garden and a hummer buzzed by me to get to my salvia. There was a huge bumble bee on one of the flowers. The little hummer attacked the bee and gave it a good work over. The hummer continued to pound the bee with it's beak until the bee actually fell down to the ground(it then got up an flew away). The hummer went on its merry way feeding. I'd never seen this action in a hummer before.

Lisa, do you know what type of hummer it was. Ruby's are not usually that aggressive toward bees, but some other species would be.

That hummingbird sounds a little psycho ....
My hummingbirds have always been scared by bees.

But, I say, good for him! There's too much fear in the world!!! (happy face here)

Last summer a hummer attacked one of my cats that was sitting by a red salvia that it frequently visited. I was in the garden at the time and wouldn't have believed it it I didn't see it with my own eyes! It kept on chirping and dive-bombing my cat until he left the area. I think my kitty was just as shocked as I was!

I read somewhere if hummingbirds were as big as crows, none of us would be safe! Because they ARE so aggressive.
~spin!~

I had a hummer run a finch off a finch feeder that was no where near the where hummingbird feeder was.

Silly humers are chasing off the crows here. I moved a couple largish, blooming mexican sage out front and a hummer has staked his claim. No crow can even come in the driveway now lol. Go Hummer!!

hummer nut, the bird was either a ruby throated or a rufous. I have both hanging around here. I can't remember which one it was. ( I suppose I was in amazement watching the poor bee that I didn't think about the color of the hummer..lol)I've witnessed them being aggressive to each other, but never thought they would mess with a large bumble bee!

My father is regularly dive bombed by the hummers when he goes out to fill the feeder! They never touch him but they swoop around his head and buzz till he leaves the area!
