Ok, now I need lots of luck ... my very first buds :) They are so teenie tiny ... My first cutting given to me by Springsong. Didn't even notice the buds until I was told by Cher that it is a Y. Which of course has to stand for ... Yippee ...
My first Brug buds
Oh yes...you are one of the lucky ones that will have to keep us northerners happy with pictures of your blooms. Can't wait to see them blooming up a storm for you.
Butterflygal, you're gonna love those blooms. You yard looks like me with pots, potting soil and perlite. LOL Except you'd have to multiply that by a thousand to have the pots and others in your yard that I have. It's beginning to look like Fred Sanford lives here. LOL
I hope to be able to share blooms :) Got the Best Teachers here on net.
The rest of the pots I kinda hide in dd's old playhouse ... lol
Wish I had a playhouse big enough to hide mine in. LOL
It's about 6 x 8. It's like 15 yrs old and not good for anything but storing plants in the winter and pots in the summer :)
WOOHOO! Last night I noticed tiny buds on 2 of my brug cuts too. I find it very odd that only 1 branch out of 4-5 has any buds on it. My Charles Grimaldi is a cutting that Clare sent me a couple months ago. I didn't prune it at all, it developed a "Y" in the main branch so I let it go into 2 seperate branches. Well now the "Y's" have new "Y's" on the new "Y's" on the newer "Y's". LOLOLOL This beast has grown so dense, I can hardly see the main branches anymore. Should I be pruning aggressively or just let it go? Am I right in thinking that if I don't prune, I'll have a bush and if I do prune down to 1 main stalk, I'll get a tree like Brug? This is my 1st year with Brugs and I'm so amazed how rapidly these babies grow. The seedlings are slow and boring right now but everyone that came from a cutting is growing like mad. I already look forward to next spring so I'll be able to start even more from cuttings!LOL
Another question. If the cuttings are strong enough to sprout buds, does that also mean it's strong enough for some serious fertilizer? I know many folks that use Peter's 20-20-20, I'm afraid to go that strong immediately. Maybe regular strength miracle grow for a week or 2 then hit it with the Peter's?
Thanks for the inputy friends.
Jeff
Butterflygirl! LOL. Y is for YIPPEE....you got that right! Good one.
Jeff, I prune only if the tree is getting sparse looking. You can get a tree if you prune out all the sidegrowth but if it has Yed short I would not bother but wait for a sucker to come up.
I wonder why your seedlings are so slow and boring. I can't keep up with mine they are growing so fast. I am lagging way behind their need to be potted up into even bigger pots. Mine need about 3 weeks in each size pot before they want to go bigger.
Jeff, both of us doing the "Bruggie" dance last nite ... LOL
I'm afraid to prune ... I want to see blooms first :)
I wonder what my neighbors thought when they saw me outside in the dark last nite with a flashlite examining my plants ... LOL
