New Brug Mama!

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

Hi!

I am new to DG and a brand new brug mama! I have always wanted one and am thrilled!

My tree is about a foot tall and the older leaves on bottom have been chewed on. The newer leaves appear to be untouched. Any clues from you experts?

Thinking of feeding palm food-is this okay? How often?

I had my first blossom yesterday followed by nasty 90 degree heat- tough first day for the blossom!

Thanks a bunch!

Jane :)

Just wanted to welcome you to DG Jane. Congrats on your first brug. Any number of pest could have snacked on your plant. Seems to me that these plants are bug magnets. Not sure about the palm food? I feed mine whatever I have on hand. I'm a fan of osmocote.

Hi Jane, welcome to DG...I am new to brugs too, so sorry I don't have answers to your questions, but I do have alot of my own questions! There are a few of us new here right now, so join the club. The older timers are very knowledgable! This heat wave in CA has been terrible, hasn't it been?

Picturelady,

We just planted an entire garden-all kinds of cool perennials and ferns and stuff. I waited 15 years to get my hubby to get the ivy ripped out of the front yard! And now those poor plants are suffering in the heat! We live near the ocean and it is still 90!!

Hoping for a break soon!

Hi back to everyone!! Nice to find such a friendly group!

Poppysue, my ratio is 18-6-18. If this is no good, please let me know-is just some plain old Miracle Grow better?

I have a brand new garden with lots of new plants so I would like to keep maintenance simple so everyone will live!!

Thanks a bunch!!

Jane...it looks like you still didn't get an answer to your question! After reading a post here on fertilizer, I have actually been looking for a fertilizer with a low "P" and have not been able to find one. The lower P was recommended. I will link the thread, if I can find it!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Jane...this is the link on fertilizers. Also did you know you can do a search on a subject...click over in the box on the right & you can put in the subject and in which area! It is a big help to me.

Thanks picturelady! The link tells me what I need to know about fertilizers!

Anybody have any idea on what to do for the mysterious leaf chewer??

Thanks and Happy Wednesday!

Jane

You need to figure out what's chewing them first. I could be slugs... they come out at night so it's not always easy to catch them in action. Take a peek at them at night with a flashlight and see if you can find the culprit..
