over 25 buds on L'Amour!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

All this talk on here about L'Amour, I finally really looked at mine tonight! And I was shocked to see so many buds. I haven't decided if I will pollinate them!

What would be good cross? I have tons of frozen pollen. Of fresh pollen, I will have BF, Jesse Noel, Creamsickle, CG, PB, Logee's Species, and Golden Lady and a few others I am sure.

I was even thinking of doing a send me the pollen of your choice and you can have the pod! I do not need anymore seeds! LOL

I have 10 buds on this branch alone! I found 3 snails crawling up the pot tonight. SQUISH! SQUISH! SQUISH!

Try Ecuador Pink! Some gold pollen doner would be interesting too because L'A has but out a lot of gold babies.

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Kell, please save me some fresh L'amour pollen, if possible, the frozen didn't take. I have one bud on mine, but more would be nice.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Wow Kell...look at you Girlie Girl!!! I can't wait to see the show!

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

OH my.. how do you make them have so many buds.. How? lol

I couldn't remmy what color is L'amour cuz I don't have one in my collecting.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Wow Kell, you sure will have a bunch of blooms! You will have to take a picture when it's in full bloom.
I agree with Poppy, put some EP on it! Is that gold seedling blooming from last year? I bet that would be an interesting cross!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

kell ! it looks like you have the magic touch with brugs!
Please tell us new brugamiacs how you care for them, what you do and when....what do you use on them, etc.

I want all the details, please !!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

My EP is dropping its buds!! I think it is still too cold for it. I may have some frozen. I will have to look. I could kick myself, for last year when I was in a clear out the brugs mood, I gave a friend's daughter a huge EP in full bud. It must have had more than 30 buds. It had not registered on my brain that EP had good genes. I keep asking the Mom how it is doing but the way she acts I think it is a goner. I hope the daughter did not just toss it.

Susie, that poor yellow seedling had one accident after the other last year. It got decapitated! You got one of the Ys, Tracey got the other (hers was in 2 pieces) and I have the third. I also have the long Y-less trunk. No buds in sight. But you are right, that would be a good one!

Margie, most is just common sense. This is not a hard plant to grow. Just keep them watered well and feed them what ever you have on hand when you remember.

The hardest part for me is learning to transform them into a Monika alley tree. A good one! There are layers of knowledge with them as with anything. As you grow them and get experience, things become more clear to you. You need to just watch your plant and respond to it. Doing what I do or what anyone esle does is not necceasrily what your plant needs.

Monika grows hers to perfection. If you look at her brugs it is an art form. Get her book and she gives all the basics to emulate. I find that as things come up with a particular brug, it is her incredible knowledge that helps me. Read everything she posts when she responds to individual problems. It is her eye you want to look thru. It is not so much being able to tell you specific things beyond the basics of food and water, but how you recognize and respond to each of your brugs needs as time passes. I find my brugs do best when I get in tune with them.

I hope this made sense!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

kell...thank you for your answer ! I have monikas book on order through Mary...I will be happy when it arrives! I would love to make a alley tree !
Also thank you to the link to Reynold nursery...I can see that it would be worth me visiting a nursery with them...to see and buy in person! (if they have a variety I want) It sounds like it would get me a larger start!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Kell, I have buds on Balao and Ecuador Rose but the buds are smaller than your L'Amour buds. Both versicolors were collected in the wild.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

You are DEFINITELY "in touch" with L'Amour and it is rewarding you with tons of buds! Can't wait to see the floral show!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I want to see them when they open Monika! I was just talking about you lady! LOL!

Margie, they do not always have them so call. But last year lots of nurseries I went to had brugs. Some good varieties also! Whatever you do, do not buy Brooadway Pink. It is a frosty look alike. There is a big commercial nursery in California that is growing all kinds of them.

I am such trouble with too many seedlings, I really do not have time to plant up cuttings for you. Have you rooted and grown any from cuttings yet?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

kell...if you are talking to me about cutting (?) Yes, I have rooted up a cutting...a large one about 1" in diameter...first in water and now it is in potting soil...it is getting leaves! so, if you have any cutting for me...don't bother to root, I can do that! I can even pick them up, if that makes it easier for you.
Thank you, I hope you were talking to me!!

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

I could get you some EP pollen if you want some. Mine is blooming now.

Kell posted: I haven't decided if I will pollinate them!

If you do pollinate them, how many blossoms will you pollinate and when will you do it, or is there a specific time, like the first day the bloom opens??? Also, if you pollinate, will you also take pollen from L'Mour at the same time??? SLike

Mine is an 'unknown', but I have a single trunked brug with 25+ buds. I bought it, b-u-t, I didn't kill it and I have maybe 5 buds opening...I'm so tickled!!!

Decatur, IN(Zone 5a)

Kell, you said; I was even thinking of doing a send me the pollen of your choice and you can have the pod! I do not need anymore seeds! LOL

If you decide to pollinate it x L'Amour, I'd be happy to take a pod for postage. LMK. Thanks,

Gemila

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Well, maybe you would like to trade some EP pollen for some L'amour Pollen, I just harvested tons of EP pollen today that I could send you to put on L'amour.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Sherry, I will answer you when I have more time. I think we all will expect great brugs from you after all your in depth questions! LOL I bet as you now grow some brugs, you will come up with your own ways that work for you.

Gemila, you wantme to supply the flower and the pollen? LOL

Mary sounds good! I rarely do trades but this sounds great! I had emailed you earlier before I saw this. Send it on!

Decatur, IN(Zone 5a)

Sorry Kell, I guess I misunderstood what you said....or perhaps you were offering to someone else. Sorry ;)

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Kell, please be sure to post pictures of your L.Amour when it bursts out in blooms.

Patricia

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Hi Patricia! Long time no see. How is your new house? Do your brugs love it?

Oh Gemila, I was kidding you! My original thought was that someone who did not have L'Amour but had another brug that they wanted crossed with L'Amour, they would send me their pollen and I would pollinate a flower for them. It sounded like you wanted a pod from L'Amour that I had pollinated with my pollen........ like I would be doing all the work! I guess you had to be in my mind to get a laugh. LOL I have some L'Amour seeds I can share with you now if you do not care about the father. So do not feel bad!

I do not do trades, I just send what ever I am offering for nothing back. I have too much already! That is what I meant by that!
