Time for me to introduce myself as well. I'm Linda, in Victoria, some of the folks on the brug forum will know me. I've been lurking for a couple of weeks. Nice to see such a group of helpful and fun people.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Wow!! A big hello to you as well Linda!! :D

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Welcome to you both, AprilHillside and Linda.
You'll like it here, tons of helpful info.

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

Ditto from the alberta part of the prairies. Nice to see our canuck membership growing by leaps and bounds. Welcome to Daves

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

adding an official welcome here! I emailed back and forth with AprilHillside today - she hails from my old stompin' grounds! So glad you found DG!!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I've often looked at our Canadian membership roster and, at last count, saw around 40 paid subscribers....wish a few more would pop in and say "Hi". It's so nice to talk to so many different people and see, or read, what people are growing (might even get some more Canadian trading going).

fort erie, ON(Zone 6a)

Welcome Linda and AprilHillside! Always nice to greet another Couple of Canucks (oops--is that a bad word now?) You will have a great time and as there are so few of us, you can share your ongoing triumphs with an eager audience. Dawn

Wow !! Merci beaucoup to all my welcoming Canadians et al! That's the extent of my Ontario French. It's nice of you to raise a glass of Maple Syrup and Back bacon, or is that 'real' beer to a fellow Canuck. And I dont care if its politically correct or not ! LOL. I see so many of you from all across this great land. Boy are we gonna have fun !! Many thanks for such a warm Canadian welcome.

All together now: This is a place to stand,
A place to grow,
We call this land,
O N T A R I O
A place to stand, a place to grow, ONTARI ARI ARI OOOOO~~~~~

Please be sure to stand downwind of the Buffalo. See you all in the garden. (I hope this reply doesnt get me put in the composter )

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

You are as crazy as some here and crazier than others...you should fit in quite well! ;)

What zone are you in April?

What do you two ladies grow? Any particular favorites?

haha LilyPon.......I shall do my best to be crazier than most. I moved into an older home in Oshawa 4 yrs ago and so far have only managed to maintain the plumage that was there from the previous owners. They were an older English couple and did a nice planting job around the house. I added a row of hostas along the driveway and bordered it with rocks that I collected at the Pow Wows that I attended locally last summer. I went to quite a few and managed to find 4 rocks to bring home for my garden edging. An overzealous friend even managed to haul a fairly bouderish red rock into my truck for the bald spot in the front bed under my magnolia tree. Eventually my muffler will recover haha. I would have to say that my Magnolia tree is my pride and joy. During springtime I anticipate coming up the street after work to find it in its full blooming glory. A sight and scent to behold.
I look forward to starting plants from seeds again for the self-satisfaction it gives and also for the unusual plant types and colours that are possible.

What do you grow in Moose Jaw?

Waterville, KS

Oops I forgot: I believe I am in Zone 6A . according to your map. And, I got 4 rocks from EACH Pow Wow so, I got a lot, and it was a Boulder not a Bouder ! hehe hard to believe I make my living with words! sheesh!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Glad to see you made the trip over here, AprilHS. If you care to, you can edit your own posts by clicking on that little 'edit' sign, underneath the time/date/city/name. And when you get a chance, add your zone on your member page - then when you ask about plants, etc. replyers can see right away what temps you're in and can possibly help you better. :)

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

My passions are water lilies and Jap. Irises; Brugmansias, Passiflora and Plumeria, come in a close second. Also have a number of landlubbing lilies and irises.

What I would give to be able to grow a magnolia or a wisteria!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

April, ..with words? Are your a teacher, writer, or a DJ?

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Hey Lilypon, My passion is brugmansias. I started about 10 passiflora seeds and not one came up. I have about 12 brug. seedlings growing well, all from poppysue, no blooms yet but have some Y's. I also have sweet peas, irises,a couple roses, gladiolas, some lilies are coming up, but I forgot what I planted. The lily of the valley are in bloom. But brugs is where my interest lies. I have a Charles Grimaldi, it's not looking too good at the moment. A common double white, an unknown white, an unknown pink, a snowcone (white) and valley sunshine (yellow), an insignus pink, and a sauveolens pink. The last 4 are from RA in Burlington Ont.

Thanks again for the welcome.

Linda

Welcome new Canadians. It's great to see our numbers growing. I noticed we have another new one lurking from Alberta, Wide_Swath. Come on in!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

hmm, does your last name start with a W?

Who?

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

MG99

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Now this is getting mysterious....MG99 did your ever purchase brugs from http://www.brugmansiasetc.com? So glad to see you newbies have digitals...we are going to see lots of gardens this summer! (Hope mine gets fixed)

A big wave from Saskatchewan Wide_Swath...with the lack of trees and the flatness of the prairies we should almost be able to see each other!

You can commiserate with jagonjune MG99...she had only one show up so far. I have heard the fresher the better...we will have to eyeball the produce section at Safeway, or Superstore, or IGA..... ;)

A Teacher? A Wrtier? or a DJ? well.........I am a teacher, a writer as I work in advertising for a major newspaper hehe DJ tho? I offered to sing to a client over the phone once and we both laughed so hard we nearly short circuited our computers!!! heheh.
I have a magnolia tree tree on my front lawn Lilypon, close to the house. It was planted by the previous owner. Magnolias are NOT a common site in Ontario. The first time I saw one in a yard across the road in Whitby it took my breath away. It is my pride and joy. Even after it blooms the bark is this smooth, almost sensual texture (can bark be sensuous??). Our neighbours to the south probably take Magnolias for granted but they are truly magnificent. I will try to post some pics of it when it comes into bloom. On that note.........Stayin Alive, Stayin Alive......ha ha ha ha Stayin Aliiiiiiiiiiive.........thats me singing disco ! haha. Have a wonderful day all and stay downwind of the Buffalo.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Yes Liz, It's me, Linda W. And yes, I have brugs on order from you and will be meeting you next week. I've asked to have my name changed from MG99 to Linda_W, which DG said they would do a week ago, so I maybe changed, who knows. Right now, I'm just enjoying the sound of the rain, and putting off all the things I should be doing. Linda.

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

It was fun to meet you, and I really do look forward to seeing you around here. I think the phrase I was looking for earlier was, "eh". Anyway, welcome.

Lookin' forward to *seeing* it Linda! :)

I asked a DG member from New Orleans to post pics of his beautiful city, the cities of the dead, spanish moss and the magnolia.......

I feel the same way about that tree ;)

edited to say dogbane doesn't participate at Dave's anymore so he won't reply to a new post in that thread.

This is back when Linda was a new joiner, sure seems like we've enjoyed her company for longer than this. Anyone know what happened to Aprilhillside? She seemed to be enjoying herself here, and has just disappeared.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

I received an email from her last month. Just busy, I think.

Mississauga, ON(Zone 6a)

A big hello to AprilHillside and welcome. I'm from Ontario too; Mississauga to be exact.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

HI aprilhillside,

Is your magnolia tree in bloom yet?
I saw one in bloom on Bloor St...
Can you show us a photo of yours?

Cheers,
Carol

Welcome AprilHillside from Christine just down the road. Nice to meet you.

North Vancouver, B.C, Canada

Welcome April Hillside....my Magnolia tree has just finished blooming.
Beautiful it was too! Ah the joys of living on the West Coast!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Ours are on the go now - they sure are nice.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Our Magnolias are all finished here for another year. I so enjoyed soaking up their beauty.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Not a real hijack. Just wanted to ask Kokopelli what he/she drives. Reason is, I belong to a car club which logo is a kokopelli.

Welcome to April. Oshawa, where I used to go and get all the orphans at White Rose nurseries.. No more White Rose, I understand.

Inanda
