There are some weird stinkhorns out there. Seems a couple come up on the ID forum every few months. I've never seen one before.
I think the spores are spread around by insects.
Thanks girls, I always learn so much on this forum.
On this page it sez it is definitely found around SC. Don't eat it!

Don't worry, I don't want to touch it much less eat it. We hadd some rain overnight and it is not as "pretty" as it was yesterday. I'm glad I got the photos when I did. Thanks for the information.
I had some that were similar looking come up in some old potting soil that was staying damp under an oak tree, but they were yellowish in color. They finally just sort of "melted" away. Yours are much prettier in color. Nice photos of them by the way.
Did you smell them ? ;o) They're supposed to be stinky... to attract insect pollinators.
They did not have a strong odor. There were insects attracted to them.
That's so cool looking.
I loved them until I saw that brown yuck.
poppysue, what is that word "uber" under your location?
woodspirit1...click on it and you will see that she is a member of a photo posters group that have posted many, many photos! Only a few elite are in the club! Great ! They deserve it, they have done alot of work!
Don't worry about where it came from Linda, The spores of these little 'stinkers' are spread by insects.
Who needs to explore outer space when we have such strange things amoungst us?
Does it stink?
