There are some weird stinkhorns out there. Seems a couple come up on the ID forum every few months. I've never seen one before.

I think the spores are spread around by insects.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Thanks girls, I always learn so much on this forum.

San Francisco, CA(Zone 10a)

Don't worry, I don't want to touch it much less eat it. We hadd some rain overnight and it is not as "pretty" as it was yesterday. I'm glad I got the photos when I did. Thanks for the information.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

I had some that were similar looking come up in some old potting soil that was staying damp under an oak tree, but they were yellowish in color. They finally just sort of "melted" away. Yours are much prettier in color. Nice photos of them by the way.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Did you smell them ? ;o) They're supposed to be stinky... to attract insect pollinators.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

They did not have a strong odor. There were insects attracted to them.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

That's so cool looking.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I loved them until I saw that brown yuck.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Don't worry about where it came from Linda, The spores of these little 'stinkers' are spread by insects.

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)
