They look good Amanda -- the yellow one, could it be a nitrogen difficiency? Can you take a picture if just that plant, a little more close up? Gretchen

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

They look great from this distance, could be the cross, they sure look ready to grow!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

They look great! Cant wait to see some of your pictures!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

CG is a yellowish leaf brug normally. I foliar feed it high nitrogen fertilzer to green it up. But it always is yellowish!

They are are looking good. You may want to stake them now.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Give it a little Iron. mix it in with you regular fertilizer, do not foliar feed it iron. Alittle bit goes a long way here!

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

I see Iron mentioned frequently.

Can they get too much Iron?

We have well water, and there is a lot of Iron in it. It turns everything red ......... the rocks the ground, the house siding if you let the sprinklers hit it for too long.

If this can cause a problem, what should I watch for. Even inside I water my plants with water that hasn't gone through the softener .............. I have found that the salt from the softener does not agree with some seedlings.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

kell...would you explain when and how you would stake these new seedlings! I didn't realize that they would need staking so young in life.
Actually I think I will start a new thread on it!

Here's a page for iron toxicity symptoms

Thanks for the link Poppysue.

It related to iron toxicity with rice crops, but some of the information is probably good for any "crop".

It doesn't look like it should be a problem with potted plants, but I'll watch for change in leaf color or a red coating on the roots when transplanting.

here is another seedling showing the same signs, i thought it might be mites, so i sprayed them with avid yesterday.

Amanda, I would have to look at them up close. Mites leave a whitish doted look. Since you sprayed Avid, why not give it a little iron and some nitrogen and see if that helps also. I just take iron and throw it under my plants. I never measure anything and seem to get by OK! Just go easy.

Margie, I only stake ones that need it. I use chopsticks or wooden skewers. I use the plant velcro to go around the plant. Some I do not even need to do that. I just put in the skewer and it holds the stem straight.

Thanks kell...got it...the photo really helped!
Plant velcro? made specially for plants? Where do you get that from?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

It is fantastic. I do not know how I lived without it!!! HD has it. It comes in a roll.

Here is a pic of it.

My favorite new things are Preen and these velcro ties. My life is so exciting!

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Thanks Kell for the tip about the Plant Velcro. I never knew it existed. Just the other day I was trying to stake something and was thinking that I wish I had some velcro to try to hold it to the stake.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Springsong, if you've only recently brought your plants outside from lower light conditions either in a house or greenhouse, they could have sunburn too. I agree with the others also, it could be a nutrient deficiency or even mites. Look for webs under the leaves.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Tree-climber, they are just great and even hold big trees to their stake. I love them. I even use them to close my plastic bags I use to start seeds.

But beware, they can cut into your brug trunk. This was done by a half inch wide piece. The brug is very thick, I was shocked it went so deep. And it did not give! I try to cut a bigger piece and then release it and restick as time goes on to allow for growth.

I use the plant velcro to train my Confederate Jasmine and I really like it because, when you come back the 2nd year, you can still use the same velcro, assuming you left room to expand. I don't know what I did without the stuff!! SLike

Kell,

Thanks for the warning. That's quite scar there, I bet you were surprised.

I have so many things that need some tieing up during the summer that I think it will be a good product for me to get. I run out of panty hose, since I don't even wear them.
