What would your guess be....I thought it was thrip, but others said they don't do this kind of damage. I am seeing fine webs, but not seeing aphids. Just seeing a tiny, tiny, long and thin black bug on the flowers....not really anything on the leaves.
I did give them some Bayers 2 in 1 for roses and flowers. The new leaves look OK.

Probably snails or slugs.
that does look like slug damage. Fine webs sounds like spidermites. The Bayer should take care of mites.
I also surrounded both plants with a liquid snail bait...so I think I have all the enemies covered, for now at least! I am sure something else will find it !
How does the liquid stuff work? I don't have much faith in those escargot pellets. It didn't seem to slow my slug population down any!
I love the liquid...they get up to it & not across the line that you put...directions say just to put drops, but I put a solid line. I put it around the individual plant. Works every time!
