Did you see where just about all his hostas are sold out, alot of his other plants are too, he only has 2 ee's left, I've been there before, thinking he had really good prices, now we know why he's all sold out. LOL

kathy

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I haven't visited his site in a while, so didn't know he was down to limited stock......doesn't surprise me though. I know I helped deplete some of it LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kathy, you can get a great looking plant from malanga roots that can be purchased from some Oriental markets. I bought four at 25¢ each. Generally at this time of the year you can get the common ear bulbs at WalMart. Most of my ears either came from friends or from a co-op that tiG held last spring and those were really cheap. Hope you find some good ones. Those prices are really cheap at that place compared to many of the other places that charge an arm and a leg for them.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I buy the common colocasias at the Oriental market..about $.10 each and by the end of the summer they are huge. They eat them overseas ya know!. :-)

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

they eat them overseas? goodness, didn't even realized they had them at oriental markets. LOL Rikerbear, so now we know !!!! didn't leave any for anybody else ha! LOL

Hmmm, off to the Intl Dist after work......produce section I would assume???

Guilford, CT(Zone 7a)

I saw fairly large EE's at Walmart for $4 last week. The best price I have seen yet. EE's this size go for at least $8 & up! They are in a separate stand like the Hostas, Lilies, ect.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

You can find Malanga in the Hispanic markets also, that is where I get mine.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I got mine at WalMart for a little less than 3.00, they are grapefruit size ones. Im off to find where we have asian markets here. LOL This site is somthin! I swear!! :o)

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm looking for unusual varieties though, the kind you can only find on the internet. LOL

kathy

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

well geeeez Kathy! LOL

I remember over at BGI Root put up a link with some VERY unusual varieties. If I remember right, it wasnt cheap tho.

There HAS to be someone out there who has a "secret" place.
(ahem ::cough::rooteclipse:::cough::) :o)

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I wish I could help,I had a full meltdown yesterday,I do not have any of my old pictures or links.;0(

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Well, I know baylove on ebay sells them decently priced, about 2.99 to 3.99 that's his ebay name, there was a web site I went to once, that had them cheaper than that though, I don't suppose one could get cheaper than 2.99 LOL

kathy

Franklin, LA(Zone 9b)

our wal mart has the "grapefruit sized" EE bulbs for $2 each..
i was tempted.. but i dont have a place to put more EE's!
yeah.. that's what i'm telling myself for the moment, atleast :)

Guilford, CT(Zone 7a)

Walmart does OK, don't they! I am happy they are allowing folks to get acquainted with these plants. I know lots of folks will try them, who otherwise may not have paid for a more expensive plant. I love to see them in landscapes!

Foley, AL

dollarnursery.net dave has the pretty cheep. around 2.99 but there alocasias.... so colocasia his handel is baylove on ebay...

Sometimes you get what you pay for. I usually charge more so I can deliver a better, bigger plant that the customer won't complain about.

I strongly recommend Baylove aka Dave from eBay for all your EE, banana and begonia. The plants I bought from him in the fall have trippled in size...I give them chicken manure tea and they love it. I have been buying from him for years. Always small but very inexpensive and healthy plants...they hit the dirt running. Never have had a DOA or DAA. He always has some really cool stuff. Oh and he doesn't pad the shipping either.

Have fun!

Don't forget to mention he usually throws in one extra !

I've bought from him before too.

yes Malanga and Esculenta are edible. u can boil them like u would boil a potato. cut them in pieces, good with freshly grated coconut and some sugar. sometimes, then are cooked in coconut milk with some tapioca, cooking banana and jack fruit.

sometimes they are also used in boiled meat. so many ways to cook them. they are good cuz of their nutty flavor and consistency.

orientals are not the only ones who eat them. some European countries use them too as staple food, and it is also very popular in the So. America countries.

am sure if some of u have gone to Jamaica or somewhere in that vicinity, u have had them without really knowing u ate them. they are slightly different from boiled or roasted potato. now u know :D.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I searched for Baylove on ebay and couldnt' find that person. Ugh! I'm needing more ee's! LOL

Hello MaVie...how are you?

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

hi Brinda :). am ok now, i was hospitalized for a while, i am fine now... the reason why i have been gone for a while.

try Native Habitat, they have some selections too http://naturalselections.safeshopper.com/51/cat51.htm?883 otherwise try ur local Latino or Asian markets.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

he's not offering any auctions now though, he will soon

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Hey kathy_ann...thanks a million! I thought I couldn't find him! I will keep an eye out for him to have an auction soon!

Foley, AL

yeah dave runs his auctinos on spirts... I love buying from baylove besides his wacky humor. he will also be upfront and honest...he takes his own pictures and uses them in his auctions he doesn't show you a full size pic and send you something smaller. he might through in a extra or too. but you don't ever see anyone that sells them for a bigger price do that either...... I know I have paid 10-15 for something that is 2x the size. but why spend more money on something that will cost 10-15 dollars when they grow so fast...... I don't know about anyone else but I don't like to get online and through my money away.... but I like dave and if you are happy with someone that sells you something stay with him... he also has super cool violets... that are cheep. and the wing things........ but I will get off my high horse....

ely

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I'll have to agree with you there ely

i'm watching his auctions, he does go in spirts, as he gets tired and has to take a break every once in a while, LOL don't we all

kathy

Foley, AL

yes.....well he told me he does about 100-200 boxes everytime he does that so I would need a break too....after doing that...

ely
