For brug lovers

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I don't venture over into this forum much, but thought y'all would like to see a lovely quilt.

This was at the Paducah Quilt Show here in Kentucky and I thought of all y'all. It actually didn't win anything, but I thought it was gorgeous. The title says it's about the flowers of Hawaii.

I'm going to post the rest of the pictures I took over in 'photos', but figured you'd rather have this one over here.

Enjoy!

This is so pretty thanks for sharing the photo:)

The quilt is from Japan by a group of friends...and yes, the technique is 'stained glass'.

The Asian quilts are so beautiful, they have such a wonderful eye for color and design. I can usually pick them out, they are so distinctive.

I'm in trouble. DW likes quilts and stained glass. I see a web search in her future. Know who made it?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'll bet something like this would cost an arm and a leg.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

It's 100% cotton. most quilters prefer that. there are a few silk quilts, but they have a very unique sheen to them that can be spotted very quickly.

This quilt didn't win any prize at the show, but it was honored by being displayed...over 400 quilts were displayed.

The Grand Prize winner got 20,000.00 and the other best in categories got close to that.

I've got all of the info over in the Photo forum where I'm giving a virtual tour of the show. click over and enjoy some of the other quilts....I think you'll like them too.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Well worth your trip to the Photo forum. All of them are great and definitely works of art. Thanks for the tour.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I see a tag there on the right, does it say $836.00? Considering all the work that went into it, seems like a fair price.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Shelly, that is probably an ID number or entry number. I doubt these people are very interested in selling these beauties. My bet is that even if they do sell them $836 wouldn't cover it. LOL! They are just so beautiful.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Quilting is such a gift when you can create something so beautiful like that. Think of the time and creativity that goes into making a piece of art like that. My grandmother quilts, but unfortunately, I didn't inherit it. But then, if I was doing something like that, I wouldn't have time for my main hobby, gardening.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

lol ok Brugie... Ive never been to anything like that. Makes complete sense tho. Thanks

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

The number is an I.D.

There is a book published to go with your admission fee. That way you can have the info on each quilt.

That's the only way I can give you the info on the quilts over in Photos....I have to look the numbers up to find out about them. The top awards are from 20,000.00 down to 5,000.00

They are 'purchase awards' The American Quilter's Society awards the money, but gets to keep the quilt for the Museum. You can turn down the prize money and keep your quilt though...and several do. The ivory quilt in the 'winners' section at the top of the thread was just that way. My mom and I spoke to the artist and she is keeping her quilt....turning down 12,000.00

Some quilts can be valued at much more than the award. If the quilt is used for a magazine cover or even a music CD cover, the owner gets paid...and the sum over the years can really get impressive.

The other cash awards run from 3,000.00 down to 200.00 and they are just cash awards and the owner keeps the prize and the quilt.

Thanks Melody! Gosh, theres so much Im learning! I keep looking back at the quilt, and notice more.
"Fair" in my prior post was not the correct wording lol. "affordable to me" would have been better.
