Shirley's letter with the pollen arrived today. I am absolutely thrilled and so excited. Thank you so very much Shirley, what a precious girl you are. Although your instructions were clear in your letter, I have a few questions.
1. What is the shelf life of the pollen?
2. Do I pollenate the first day the flower blooms?
3. Does the flower get torn when I pollenate?
4. After I pollenate, what if a critter pollenates it?
5. How long following pollenating does it take for a pod to appear?
6. I have 3 brugs with multiple trunks & one tree plant on a single trunk. The tree brug is LOADED with buds. If I pollenate several flowers, will the brug quit blooming? If so, that might make a difference as to which plant I pollenate.
Good golly, this is fun, now, I can't wait for the UPS man!!! SLike
I have mail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shirley's letter with the pollen arrived today. I am absolutely thrilled and so excited. Thank you so very much Shirley, what a precious girl you are. Although your instructions were clear in your letter, I have a few questions.
1. What is the shelf life of the pollen?
I've heard that it can last up to two years, but I haven't tested it.
2. Do I pollenate the first day the flower blooms?
Yes, as soon as it begins to open would be best. Some people even slit the side of an unopened bloom and pollinate.
3. Does the flower get torn when I pollenate?
It won't get torn unless you tear it intentionally. Paint brushes work well to pollinate since you can reach up inside easily with them.
4. After I pollenate, what if a critter pollenates it?
To make sure a critter doesn't pollinate right after you are finished, you can use some masking tape and close the flower or you can snug a tiny piece of foil over the stigma.
5. How long following pollenating does it take for a pod to appear?
You will know in a couple of weeks or so.
6. I have 3 brugs with multiple trunks & one tree plant on a single trunk. The tree brug is LOADED with buds. If I pollenate several flowers, will the brug quit blooming? If so, that might make a difference as to which plant I pollenate.
I have never noticed that seed pods on a brug has slowed blooming with the next flush.
