Dumb question

Northport, ME(Zone 5b)

I'm not really sure how to pronounce Brugmansia. I have a 1571 page dictionary and it's not listed. Is the g silent? Is the accent on the 2nd syllable or the 1st and 3rd? I know it doesn't matter here but if I go to a greenhouse...Thanks. Frank

LOL Frank! That's not a dumb question... it's a great question. We had a discussion about it a while back. It's listed as brug-MAN-see-uh in the PDB. I think confusion lies is the brug part. Do you say Brug (as in rug) or BrooG. I always say Broog... prolly not right but that's how I pronunce it. I'll see if I can dug up that old thread. It was a good one.

Good question...I had the same one and like poppysue...I say it like broog, but I have heard others say it as brug (like in rug)! I am from the east coast and notice I tend to say vowels different than the people here on the west coast!

You guys are fast. I figured I'd post the question and come back tonight to see if anybody was on. I know why poppysue is on. Nice day for gardening huh. Thanks for the info. Frank

Ya'll talk funny up north when I go visiting to ME my sisinlaw has a party JUST so her friends & family can hear me talk with an accent. Then my brother really gets his hillbilly slang going & it's a riot. ha-ha

I am from NY originally...I never had an accent until I left there!! Funny isn't it how that is!

Frank, I sure enjoyed this topic you started, now what are you going to call them?

BTW, I can't remember, did you get cuttings or seeds?
What is it doing? Just wait till you have your first bloom, you'll know why we're all such Brugnuts!
Broognuts? Nah!

Still waiting for a white Gurney's "Trumpet Flower" and 4 Dahlias. They sent the peach tree when the ground was still frozen. It is planted now but a night in the 20s may not have helped it much. It might be called "How did you grow that" or maybe "Frank's mistake". We'll see. Frank
