How could I have let this happen??!!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Attached is a photo of a brug in distress, along with my grand, Madeline, 9, who is my under study, ha!! As you can see, three blossoms are fine, only one in trouble and I thought someone had thrown something on it, I did not have a clue what the problem was and I was going to post here for advice. The blossom started getting a little limp about a day and a half ago, and I thought there was no hope, and it was the next to the last to bloom. I just did not get it because the other 3 blossoms are fine. I guess all you know what was wrong and I cannot imagine why I didn't figure it out. Mind you, I fertilized them on Friday am. Photo #2 will follow this post. SLike

That's funny Sherry. Too bad they don't last forever. Your grand is a cutie. Did the pollen get there yet?

The mystery is solved!! Before i could get in to post you guys to help me figure out what was wrong, we had an unexpected, heavy rain that did not last long. I went back outside and low and behold the blossom came back to life, only one small boo-boo left on it. The poor baby was thirsty, thirsty. I'm just flabbergasted because the other blossoms showed absolutely zero stress. So, do I gather that all blossoms need individual attention?? Also, this implies that I might need to water more than once a day, right?? That's lots of watering, whew!!! SLike

It was not there yesterday and just as soon as we have lunch I'm going to the office to check again. I cannot wait, I'm REALLY excited!!! SLike

Shirley, when the pollen arrives, where should it be stored??? I only have two plants in bloom now, the one that I nearly let die of thirst and this one attached. Will either on of them work?? The yellow tree has a zillion buds, only this one open so far. SLike

Sherry,great picture,what a cutie!
Your bloom could have been something as simple as a bug bite on that bloom, maybe on the stem where nutrients flow to that part of the flower,I am glad it perked up for you, thirsty little beggers aren't they.

Sherry, just stick it in the fridge. I sent Ecuador Pink. Pretty yellow bloom. Sure, you can put it on anything other than another EP bloom. When you get some better brugs you will want to make some other crosses. Since you are just starting out, the fun will be seeing if you can get a pod to set. After that, you can go crazy with pollen.

Your grand is very cute Sherry!

Well, I would say, I'm grateful they lived through that 12 or 14 hour drought and, hey, it's not even hot yet, I need sleeves and slacks. Looks like I will be a busy girl, yet again, this summer! I'm glad I didn't kill that poor baby, OTOH, I'm glad it happened and I saw in living color how a thirsty brug behaves!!

I guess maybe I'll use it on the first brug to bloom, except the EP. I've really got lots to learn this summer!! SLike
