Fayette, MO(Zone 6a)

Haven't posted much lately although I read everything.

Last Monday evening Hubby and I were doing our usual : He watches tv and I play on the computer. He is a "little" hard of hearing and turns the tv up a little too loud in my opinion. but nevertheless. He got up to get a snack and then decided to go outside to roll up the windows in the car because it was suppose to start raining. I wasn't paying much attention to where he was. Pretty soon our little rat terrier started raising the roof. You can't ignore this dog if he is upset. I thought to myself , I didn't hear a car drive up and I usually see a flash of headlights if anyone pulls in the driveway - and there are no outside lights for miles around ,but better go check it out. When I opened the back door I could finally hear Hubby calling my name. Seems the tv had drowned him out. When I go up to him he said he had fallen and broken his ankle and pretty bad. I didn't really believe him at first - he tends to elaborate some stories - but when I looked at his ankle I changed my mind. It was almost a compound fracture, he foot was turned in a completely different direction than it was supposed to be. Now I had to make a decision on how to get him to the emergency room. I knew I couldn't lift him. He is twice my size -- and I'm not a small person myself. He said if I could pull my truck up beside him he could get in. I could have called the ambulance , but they would have taken about as long to get there as it would take me to get him to the emergency room. So sure enough, Hubby got up and into the cab of my truck. I flew low to the hospital - I am usually that Sunday driver noone wants to follow. I got to see my first ankle reduction. ouch. The next day he bought himself two pins and a plate. After surgery and another day in the hospital he is home.

All the kids and Grandkids will be here tomorrow to visit. It is a dreary cold rain today. If this keeps up the pony rides and tractor rides will have to be in the barn tomorrow. I really want my three year old Grandson to try to work the hydraulic lift on my tractor. The Granddaughter has a tractor at home so it's not such a big deal for her.

I sold about 15 goats last week. A guy called and wanted to know if I had any for sale. They had been getting out and into the bottom land that I lease out. I told him to come on over. He came towing a livestock trailer behind him. I still have about 15 left.

I have been having lots of conversations lately about how to control a large creek that comes through our farm. It is washing out a lot of ground and trying to make a new channel. The Conservation Department and the USDA seems to almost have too much control over what we can do. No levees to be built without permission. The Conservation Department also has a program where they will help you put grass by the stream. They pay you to do it. But you have to sign up for 15 years. That is way too long for me. Two of my siblings own land downstream, so I certainly want to be careful. Not that I wouldn't be careful anyway.

Well, that's my life in a nutshell ...
