dividing lotus

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

Went to the Master Gardeners plant sale today. Loaded up on plants. I bought a pink lotus that is about 5 feet long. Can I divide this and how do I do it?

Oh boy, that looks like a nice one! I would not divide it if I were you. But if you do make sure that you have at least one, preferably two, healthy growing tips per divided piece. I can't tell by looking at the picture how big the tubers are or if each section/seam has a growing tip.

You cut them at the tuber portions in between where the growing tips are. I would not cut the big banana tubers, only the smaller runner sections.

Here's a link that might help, I will post a another site later, it's temporarily down and I can't access it to get the link.

Here's that link that I couldn't post earlier, I think that this one is better than the one listed above, it's much more complete.

Thank you very much. After reading both of those links, I decided to wait to divide it. I planted it just the way it was.

Rylaff, you won't be dissapointed!
