Hello from MS

Brandon, MS(Zone 8a)

Hi all, I've been lurking here for a few weeks, it's a great site so I thought I better introduce myself! We are currently building a house in Jackson, MS (borderline zone 7b/8a), which will be ready in June. I have 1/3 acre of red dirt to do with what I please, which is very exciting. I'm hoping to fill it with roses, roses and more roses, and perhaps some irises, daylilies and daisies, oh yes, and some cherry trees, crabapples, daffodils for spring, a herb garden... This will be my first garden, so I'm certainly going to need a lot of advice and a lot of luck at first :>)
Here's my yard currently:

Gosh, that will be beautiful when finished. I don't envy you having to put in all the flowers, but when finished, you will be so glad you did all the work. I love the design of your home. Sure am glad you posted and hope to get to know you in the garden.

Shirley, thanks for the welcome. I just ordered 200 daffodil bulbs and 100 dutch iris bulbs for fall shipping, and now I am wondering if I might regret it when they arrive and I have to plant them all... Maybe the rest of the "plan" will have to wait 'til next year, or the next, or the next... :>)

I love spring bulbs. When I'm sitting here with spring fever and can't do anything else, they can make me feel good. I don't have a lot of them, but just enough to add some color in my back yard. You are going to have a good back ache when you get through planting that many bulbs.

Welcome to DG, Natasha. I had a "blank canvas" just like yours a few years ago. Every time you look at your yard you're probably thinking, "Oh, the possibilities!" Well you'll get lots of ideas here. I'm a fairly new member and I wish I'd found this place a long time ago. It would have helped me tons when I was planning out our yard.

Thankyou all so much for your warm welcomes! Sorry I was a bit slow to respond - we've been away for the weekend for the last time, probably, what with the new house. Claire, you are right I have a new (and different) idea every time I look at the yard. TC - does your friend garden? There don't seem to be many members from central MS on the member list. Thanks also, Herbie, Llilyfan, notMartha. Ron - I think you are going to be seeing a LOT of me around the threads - I have too many questions :>)

How's the house coming along? Have you been to the rose forum yet? Oh my, what a way to become addicted to another type of gardening.

Welcome Natasha from the west coast,

I just viewed your site and your home is lovely. I also looked at your paintings, and you are very good. My sister is also a watercolorist and has painted several originals for me.
We look forward to seeing your new gardens as they progress and will gladly help in any way we can with information or new plants.

Welcome trifunov! I'm in Jackson also and it's great to meet a fellow gardener. I'm also fairly new to Dave's Garden and I LOVE it! The people here are fantastic! You asked tcfromky if their friend, Felder Rushing, gardens...he is a horticulturist here and one of the most unique, down to earth people you would ever want to meet!
Your house is beautiful...a true canvas just waiting for you to add your paints!
Good luck to you!
Yvonne
