Now its Fire Ants

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

A couple of days ago Stormy came in the house and I was playing with her and rolled her over to look at her spay to see how well it was healing.
It has no soreness at all and is 99% healed. But then it was obvious that she had disturbed an ant colony of fireants.
I try to poison them when I notice a mound, but sometimes they attack around a mound that you can't see.
She had a lot of raised blood red bumps. When I went to investigate with the ant killer I saw she had been digging. I think as she swung the dirt underneath her body it had ants in it.
I get bitten by these things myself when I am gardening and know they hurt. But before you can even notice them, it seems like they are all over your feet and then start to bite.
It is funny how much pain a tiny little ant can make.
I gave her a Benedryl capsule and rubbed some benedryl cream on her tummy. I don't know what else this little thing can get into. I will be glad when she is grown and doesn't explore so much.
She is none the worse for it now. Thank goodness she did not have some enormous reaction to them.
