I have heard that brugs need a lot of water and it needs to be draining...but someone else told me that I could drown my brug with too much water & to wait until it starts to wilt before I re-water. Actually this was for a newly rooted cutting. To me though, this is 2 different things!
I am talking about during growing season (not winter)...Could you tell me what is considered enough, without being too much? Do I water again before the soil is dry or wait until it is dry? (say at finger depth!)
What do you do, to keep your brugs healthy?
Could you tell me more on the watering needs of brugs?
Let me try to explain. Because of the rather large size of their leaves, they evaporate a lot of water. As the night time temps increase and the day time temps increase, more evaporation occurs, thus more watering. If they are in part shade less watering will have to be done. If they are in full sun all day, they will wilt during the heat of the day, but will look better as the sun goes down. As with most any plant, watering should be done in early morning or early evening. They can take a lot of abuse, but you should not let the soil dry out completely on flowering brugs or really active growing brugs. I have found one exception to this. Brug Arborea does not like to stay wet. As far as I know, others do not mind being constantly wet. Like anything else, it depends on your climate and you will learn as you go. Hope this helps.

Hoo Boy! This means I'm going to be a very busy girl this summer. It was only 84 yesterday, very high humidity and, in the middle of the day, my tree brug's leafs, in the center part of the plant, laid down for a nap, limp as could be. I didn't know anything else to do but give them a drink and it fixed them right up; however, on Wed, I found a few yellow-ish leafs and thought I had over watered. I guess I need more plants so I won't dwell on any single plant too long. I've never been good on watering. SherryLike
Yellow leaves may have different causes. All it needs is a dry rootball once a day over a period of three or four days and the plant will reduce the foliage to save water.
But a to wet rootball may also cause yellow leaves. You have to get the feeling for it to keep the right balance.
just do like i do and pluck em off!! If tehy get too yellow. i can never tell if it is yellow due to too much or to little water, but on average i try to water mine every three days, and people may laugh when they go by, but this year I have saved all my laundry detergent bottles and I feel them up and turn them over and push the spout into the ground by my plants and let them seep in over night just to that plant. saves on the water bill. but my yard looks really funny with green gain detergent bottles every where. But on a good note my hubby can't say " I am sorry I chopped it down with the weed eater but i didn't see it there, you didn't tell me you planted anything new" this is always his excuse, If this happens this year i am going to say " what? did you think i was growing gain bottles now? you didn't see that plant by it? LOL
Good idea, Amanda. LOL
