I think you have too many brugs already Larry! It is for your own good!
lololol Hummer Nut,
Wish I could help you but that's on my wish list too. :)
Of course, with you dominating the threads with all those gorgeous brugs, you may find sympathy a little scarce. :)~
Sorry Larry but I don't either
Gosh, Larry, I'd send you an RK in a flash, if I had a clue what it was - maybe the brug I bargained for outta the pick up truck today was an RK, ya think?? SLike
I have nice RK, but doesn't want to root )o;
Airlayering now.
Not feeling THAT sorry for you though ... lol
But will send you some pollen if wish.
Alice
You mean there is one that you don't have!
I've enjoyed your pictures and have been envying you all day.
Unfortunatly, I'm still waiting for my first bloom,so I'm no help to you.
Bonnie
Yep Larry, you should have put this thread up first, before you dazzled us with blooms,LOL!
I do not have it either.
Still looking for pity. Alice, I would like to get some RK pollen to put on HG. Here is a link to my info: http://davesgarden.com/address_exchange/view.php?user=hummer_nut
The two main trunks on my rothkirch are starting to Y. The larger one having a very nice split already. The plant is also in the process of forming two new shoots from the bottom. One of those is about 6-8 inches right now. The second one only an inch or so.
I have plans to use the 2 new shoots for rooting material, but have no idea as to what method I will use to try and root them.
I have an idea of how i'd like to try it. Last year I used some foam rubber pipe protector like you would use to keep water pipes from freezing during the winter on my plants. It was used only to keep the potted brugs from getting stem damage from the wodden stakes used as support on them. The foam being placed directly onto a brug branch. Later on in the summer for some reason I moved a piece of the foam and the plant had rooted itself into it.
If it worked on that plant(charles grimaldi) then I think it's worth a try on Rothkirch.
Just a thought and i'm open to any suggestions that anyone may have on how to root this plant.

I am also hoping to get a Rothkirch Larry. However, if it doesn't happen this year, maybe it will happen later. It is too bad that NH had a problem. They sure had a lot of people wanting that one.
I rooted 2 big pieces last fall over all winter. They did great. Then last month I moved them out side and they died fast!!! I have no clue why! I had them in a plasitc bag for aobut 2 months. Then out for about 3 months. Outside for less than a month.
Wish I could help you Larry. This one is on a lot of wish lists.
Hi, David. I was just thinking about you yesterday and wondering where you were. Glad to see you posting. I bet your yard is going to be a Garden of Eden soon.
I thought about him yesterday, too, Sylvia, we haven't heard from you in so long, David, wondered if everything was okay with you.
Glad to see you back, David. We've missed you.
David, you achieved air layering. It is a good method to use on hard to root brugs.
Would someone direct me to a site that will tell me how to root a brug??? Thank you in advance!!!! SherryLike
Sylvia and the rest,i've been around!! Just keeping a low profile though. I visit every day but don't post as much anymore because you have to be sooooo careful what you say here anymore. One slip of the tounge and you're chow for someone!!
I don't know how nice my yard will look this year as I still havent heard anything from teh plant pathologist about the problem i'm having with the brugs and yesterday had to toss out as many as 3o that just didn't look right to me. It may have been nothing to worry about at all but i'm not taking any chances. I am tossing them now at the slightest sign of any spot of any color. So many of my highly sought after nice brugs are gone.
Sorry you are throwing them away David. This is just my opinion, but I think we over react to a perceived problem with brugs. Every brug carries at least one virus, correct me Monika if I'm wrong. There are many reasons that could cause a virus to become active. Stress of any type, not enough water, too much water, too cold, too hot, and the list goes on. It is strange that brugmansia has been able to survive in the wild. The only time I would really worry about brug viruses is if I were selling them and then I would not worry that much either. Most brug viruses are not necessarily a death wish. Nature has a way of getting rid of the weaker species on her own.
Glad to see you tickling the keyboard David,H_n said it right, winter stress can show us signs that can be alarming, hoping for a good summer, and some great blooms this fall.
David, now I want to cry for you. All your hard work and expectations thrown away. Hopefully, some of the people you so generously gave cuttings, can you repay in kind.
I have thought to myself that I may be overreacting but,I did have plants test positive for phoma and some of the ones I tossed showed spots like the original test plant.
To give you all some idea of what I threw out here's a list
amarillo paja--audrey hepburn--chlorantha--citronella--cool blush--versicolor cuba-ecuador pink--eventide--marrakech--melon kisses--sunray--Dr.Seuss--gemini--vixen--georgia peach--glockenfontaine--pink pearl---grandmarnier---star dancer---elmira bell(seedling from Roz)---ursaline--U.Conn treasure---arborea--solid gold
and I have more under a watchful eye that includes Bert and a few others.
At the moment I have no plans on replacing any of them but rather want to focus on getting this problem under control if not totally eliminated from my yard. I am also concerned that phoma may spread to other plant species becasue I have succulents ,begonias nad other plants that have the same spots starting on now that the original sick brug had.
Oh my David, it sounds like it could become a really big disaster. I wish they would let you know if there is anything you can do to stop this disease. When you do get it out of your yard, hopefully I'll have some things you can use.
Wow, David, this is terrible. I hope you hear something soon as to how you can maybe correct it. If I have anything you need or want, all you have to do is let me know.
David, are you considering keeping your plants above ground in pots?for a couple years anyway, you have a great collection,I hope this works out.
Oh no, David that is horrible! I am sorry I keep missing your calls most night I do not get home until after 8, and then back up and 5 to do it all over again. I will off Monday night.
David, hopefully you will get rid of it this summer once and for all. Growing from seed is the answer I think. and sharing pollen not cuttings.
Please do not be shy about posting here, David. We miss you. You offered such enthusiasm and fun to this site.
It is a gentler and kinder Dave's brug forum these days. We all are trying to enforce a NO BITING policy. So far so good, we just have been getting a few barks. LOL
Monika has told us about how collections have been hit.
Maybe she can tell us about how they were cleaned up.
David I am glad to see you posting too. I'm hoping that things get cleared up REAL SOON for you!!!
Seveal people have suggested different chemicals to use to possibly get rid of or control phoma, but they are things that I as a hobby grower do not have access to without a license or permit.
Yes David, hopefully you can conquer the brug disease problem youre having...and its great to see you back posting again. You do add alot of spark to the forums...Welcome back :))))
Sorry, I dont have one but still waiting/looking for one.. lol
Liz, I solved the problem my way. All endangered plants were disposed of and I try to raise resistant plants.
I'm so sorry David
David, do you think the Soilgard sold by Gardens Alive may help you with this?
As I understand phoma, there really is not much you can do. I am sorry this has happened to you. It can be transmitted by insects and other ways. Anyone who received a cutting from David should either isolate or destroy it. As David has said, it is showing up on some of his other plants. I'm sorry you are having to do this, but it is better to get it under control before more of your collections are infected. So sorry!!!!
