Returning from my aunt's therapy, we noticed a guy in a pick up on the side of the road. As we passed we both thought he had brugs for sale. Went back and I don't know how to tell you this, but, oh the horror, we think it was a brug mill!! He must have had 20 brugs like the one attached, tied with a rope, sitting in the blazing sun, that badly needed water. He had other plants in the same shape. Well, I started looking, and found this one and it would have torn my heart out to have left it. Bless its heart, two of its trunks are bowed, but I fell in love with it at first sight. No buds, but it looks healthy except for the sunburned and broken leaves from riding all smushed together. The man said it was white, ya think??? He didn't even know what kind of plant it was. Also, what should I do about the bowed trunks?? Can I cut them off and root them and, if so, how do I do it? In case you wondered, and if you can believe it, I paid $6, no tax, for the plant. This plant looks very nice. I would let it grow like it is. It may flower soon.

Hi SherryLike,
Your second plant looks like a Phillipine Violet, botanical name is Barleria cristata
I thought it looked like a phillipine violet, too.
I don't think that brug looks too bad, I have seen much worse, just recently, the spindly ones they are selling at the Wal Mart as arboreas, hardly any leaves, very yellowed the ones that are there, they look awful.
Hi Trish. It's great to see you back.
Boy Sherry, I'd say you got a good deal, no matter what color the brug is. Congrats.
Thanks all re the Phillipine Violet. I looked at the plant database and I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Do you think it's compatible with brugs??? I love the dense, shiny foliage and I would think the lovely color of the blossoms would work nice with just about any brug color, huh??? If it can be planted near the brugs, how far apart should it be?? I like a crowded garden and this is a new garden this year and looks like a subdivision with a heap of empty lots. Also, can I prune the Phillipine Violet, without keeping it from blooming, if it over powers the brug???? TIA!!!! SLike
You might not get the barleria to return from the ground there for you, I would take some cuttings just in case and make sure they are rooted good and bring inside in the winter.
It is a B. versicolor peach. It is beautiful.
I agree with Monica,(that is easy to do) I really like the shape on the dropping flower, you are getting good color Sherry.
Oh, dear, I have tears in my eyes!! Both Monika and Rootdoctor like my blooms, I'm flabbergasted; however, I must give credit where credit is due and I don't know where the heck that is, except, Florida. It did not have buds when I purchased it, but it looked healthy and the best thing I did - I did not kill it!!! Thank you, dear new pals, I'm so flattered and hope that the day will come that I will have a bloom all of my own. You guys are super!!!! I cannot belive you like my precious, Florida blooms!!! SLike
