Real dumb question

Jackson, GA(Zone 7a)

I only have a few Brugs and don't know what I am doing with them.I left a Frosty Pink and a yellow in the ground last winter and now there are new plants comming up from the roots about 2 or 3 inches from the old trunk,is this right do they come back like that?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sounds like you hit on the easiest way in the world to over winter them. Congrats. Wish that would work here.

Jackson, GA(Zone 7a)

Okay I'll just let them go and see what happens.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

They will be fine. Just remember to fertilize. You will have some great looking bushes or you can cut off all but one and maybe it will make a nice tree for you. Wish I had your zone to work with. I'd be in heaven.

I am in zone 8, and mine get killed to the ground and come back stronger and bigger each year..In no time they will be huge..I water a lot, but hardly ever feed mine after an early spring feed..

Thanks I was always told that they are not hardy, maybe being planted so close to my pond kept the ground from freezing.

Wow. That's exactly what happened to me, only I have two large plants where there was only one last year. I couldn't believe my eyes and they are about two feet apart. No complaints from me!!! I'm in zone 8a. SherryLike

I left 2 in the ground. 1 is coming back, the other is not (so far). The ones that were in the gh will probably bloom sooner? This is just year 2 for me so I'm looking for lots more blooms than I had last year.

brucedean . . . there are no dumb questions here. Always feel free to ask because that is what many of us do here. It is by the sharing of questions and information that all of have learned more about these beautiful plants.

My two new plants will bloom quicker than the one in the ground from last year, but they are nice, big healthy plants. I am amazed that the plant(s) left in the ground are already about 2 feet tall and I expect would be even taller if we hadn't had so much rain, the all day, drenching kind. I'd really be interested in knowing how tall your in the ground plants are since we are in the same zone. TIA!!!

Hello right now the yellow is about 18 inches tall and the frosty pink is just breaking ground only a couple inches tall. One more guestion,I feed my roses with a cotton seed meal alfalfa meal tea woould this be good for brugs?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I hope someone can answer for you. I have no idea.

I know zero about the alfalfa, but, the cotton seed would concern me, unless it was several years old. I have a cotton farm and I no longer use the cotton seed, unless it's well decomposed. Sometimes, it has all sorts of trash in it, and you never know what chemicals will be picked up in it. A little risky, I'd say. SherryLike
