Infected files again!!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Can't believe it! A week ago we had our computer dumped and then ran the restore disk to load it again. (WindowsXP)Since I ran AVAST a month ago, we hadn't been able to do links and other functions. We had 107 infected files and some were system files that couldn't be repaired so they were deleted.

The guy who did this for us was checking it out while DH was on ebay to check if everything was working. Pretty soon we get a pop-up and he yells, STOP, don't touch it, that's a virus, I know that one, it's msblast and it's miserable. So he gets the patch from the internet and runs it and we think we doing pretty good.

The machine yesterday was so-o-o slow it was driving me nuts and then I got an email from symantec security that the virus sample we sent them was infected. No one hear recalls sending them a sample virus. Is it possible that it's automatic, that we are signed up somewhere and a sample is sent there if one comes in?

So, I knew I had Symantec on our favs list, so I went there to compare the address and then decided to do their security check. 101 INFECTED FILES! Good Grief! How is that possible in a week, I would like to know. Our memory was clear so I guess that was good. I went nighty-night and when DS got home, he downloaded the repair stuff from Symantec and ran it. The report said 2,542 files were deleted and 4 would be when we rebooted it. Wow! Everything seems to be working so far. Links work....

I am just amazed, what is going on.... Anybody with any input here, spew!!! I am a computer dummy, always trying to learn!
