CLOSED: I am looking for colored cotton
Jody,
I don't have any cotton. But I saw your post and got curious. Do you mean like a cotton plant that grows colored puffs of cotton (is there even such a thing)?
Eileen
Yes, I know that a lady from Texas that has kept an heirloom green cotton in her family. I'm not sure where to find it. I think there are other colors also. When it is washed, and spun it turns a yellow/green color. Hope this helps. Jody
In Illinois you can grow cotton without a permit? Here in Georgia we can't. Cotton is a very large cash crop and the bole weevil (sp?) is such a threat that it is illegal to grow it here without an inspection taking place.
I love to find out the differences from state to state.
Jody, here is a web site that sells the heirloom seed for green cotton. I didn't read it all, but I'm pretty sure that is what they were talking about.

Well look at that - colored cotton. I never knew!
Jody, what will you do with the cotton if you grow it? Vague history lessons come to mind...Eli Whitney, cotton gin...isn't it full of seeds that need to be removed? Hope I'm not being too nosy, just curious because I think it would be neat to see growing, but then I wouldn't know what to do with it.
Eileen
Well; I read everyone should grow a row of cotton and pick it bare handed before they die, to see what pain the slaves had to endure. So if I can get my son to till an other row for me, I'd like to give it a go. I 'll have to read up on growing it. I just thought it would be neat to grow a row of colored cotton as well as a few white ones. Something new, I hope cotton isn't to much work, I may wait until next year when my health is back to normal, at least I hope it will be. I checked their website earlier this year and they didn't have any. I will look again. Thanks, Jody
Eileen, I have no idea what I will do with it. Maybe attempt to make some yarn, or display it,just because I did it.LOL Jody
this is a silly comment... but.... you know the spray that you color your hair with during halloween.... well you could have neon green, orange, red, and pink.... cotton is a awful plant... we have feilds of it here.....the leaves will also bite you....

I just want to give it a try, just to say I did. Jody

I grew ornamental cotton last year and have tons of seeds. I bought the original seeds because it said Pink, yellow and brown cotton; the actual cotton is an off white but the flowers were either pink or yellow. The plants got huge and the flowers were very pretty. They produced alot of cotton and I was amazed with this plant. If you want, I would be glad to send the seeds to you. Also, I think I got the original seeds from Wuv'n Acres in case you want to look at her website. Let me know if you want the seeds.

usmmom,
So let me get this straight. The flowers are colored but the cotton is the same color as regular cotton?
Weird,Gotta do some reseach now.heehee

JodyC,
This company has white, light green and brown cotton plants and it says the cotton is this color---Earthly Seed. Boy, is it pricey at $10.00 for 20 seeds.
Jody,
I just recieved some 'green cotton' seeds from one of my traders, their as green as grass, LoL. Send me a SASE and I'll send a few for you to try. I'm in the Addy thingie.
thanks will do.Jody
I myself am going to try some white cotton this year for fun. Didn't know colored existed! Interesting thread! Strike up another one for DG!
Nicole
Hey, all...
This thread is so intriguing...couldn't help but to pipe in! I'll take a couple if anyone would like to part with a few...just to grow it and see what I come up with! The thought of it makes me excited...growing cotton, how cool! A novelty I know, but cool just the same! I'm not finicky, just a few (seeds) will do. :)
