Hi y'all, -- okay IA-Ron, you've smoked me out!
I signed up on the PDB over a year ago, but never pursued reading the introductory material for DG, and so never even knew the forums existed until this spring. Stumbled my way in, bought a 2-month trial sub (see, my 'free' week went unused last year) -- on the first night I knew I would be making it an annual thing!
Last Tuesday I was showing my DM the set-up and got the great idea to get her a subscription too (I have PayPal, she don't), so I called it an early mother's day gift. Then we both sat in on the ChatRoom Tuesday p.m. and met Horseshoe, FrogsRUs, and some other nice folks.
She uses BloomsWithaView because she is a photographer in scenic east-southeast Utah [Canyonlands] who also likes to take close-ups of wild and garden flowers. I use crystalspin because I used to be employed as an x-ray crystallographer and I also spin wool.
She's been putting the finishing touches on my gardens -- we've been working on this postage-stamp lot for several years' springs, with the largest part accomplished last year and the last bed created this year... I imagine, she creates! I'm the luckiest daughter!

Well Welcome to Dave's Garden Xtal, and we're sure that you and your Mom will make up for lost time. We're all looking forward to seeing pictures of your gardens and excited about having you to share ideas with.
Iowaron
welcome and can't wait to see some of those pictures. hope both of you enjoy yourselves here.
Welcome to Daves, Xtal. I think I just welcomed your mom a few days ago. It's great to have you here. Hope you will be in and out of a lot of the forums. There is so much reading to do here. I never did get caught up when I first joined. I'm sure our paths will cross along the way again. Have fun and tell mom I say "Hi".

Welcome, Xtal. And, yes, we love pictures!
Welcome to garden Xtal, its great to have you as part of our growing family!
Welcome! You'll wonder what you ever did before you discovered DG, this place is addictive.
Welcome again from IA! See ya 'round the forums!
Welcome Xtal from your close neighbor. It sure is great to see more people arriving here that are in my vicinity. I've been on DG for 3 yrs. now and love it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Maybe we can meet someday and have lunch.
Donna from Huntington Beach
Hi Donna!
Are you going to the Green Scene (Fullerton Arboretum) this weekend -- my mom (BloomsWithaView) and I are going tomorrow -- can't say what time but safe to bet we won't be opening the gate... -- X
X,
No I won't be attending this time, but will be going to all the gardens next weekend for the MaryLou Heard Memorial Tour. Have you ever gone on these tours? They are the best. They are gardens by real gardeners. Our own "Cattnapp" is showing her gardens this year. I wouldn't miss it if I can help it.
Do you belong to the So. Calif. Fun Club? I know lots of those people are going this weekend. Have fun and don't spend all your money. hehe
Donna
Hey there X, how was the Green Scene?
Donna
Big and sunny! I was glad to talk to the representative of El Nativo Growers, and a couple members of the California Rare Fruit Growers... I got distracted before I bought a 1-gal. capers plant (forgot to go back).
BloomsWithaView bought a kiwi (BIRD not vine!) made of some kind of straw at the Arboretum gift shop; my DH bought a pound of beef jerky near where we set him up in the shade to wait us out. You could say they did not fill the till on us!
I surely would have bought plenty more except (1) have pretty much done all of this year's planting -- the Scene was about a month late for my schedule, and (2) it was Blooms last day here before heading back to Utah at the crack of noon today. Anything I bought, she would have felt compelled to plant before leaving!
I do have a few plants I wouldn't mind replacing with things more interesting, but nothing screamed TAKE ME HOME -- well, maybe the capers plant, but now I know where to get one so may still happen if we get a break in this heat wave!
Have never gone to any of the MaryLou Heard tour/gardens. Did pick up a flyer at (M&M's? some nursery anyhow) and thought I would peek at the website to see what might be pretty local to me... You don't have to go to all of them, right? I could even just drop in at one or two?
I do have a BUNCH of stuff to do inside, AND my late MIL's house needs to be cleared/cleaned out (I don't have to do it all, but some part). I've been neglecting both for gardening with my mom here et al!
