Maineroses, I would be willing to bet any pond plants will end up being annuals in your zone. We even have some water plants that die back during our winter and it doesn't even freeze down here. Anyway, here is a picture of my water lettuce in case you wanted to see. Placed in a pond in full sun they will reproduce quickly and yet also provide some food for your pond critters. Because they grow on the surface, they will help keep the algae back some. If your pond is in the shade, they won't grow as quickly. If you get too many, because they float, you simply pull them out and give to your friends, or discard in trash. Let me know if your would like some per my email to you.

I'll be pulling out some water celery soon. If that would interest you, send me an E. :) It is perennial here in 6, not sure about 4.
Hey Molly, any chance you have a few more of those lettuce? I'll find *something* to send you. :)
Chele, check your email.
Thanks doll!
