Palmbob,
What's the zone limit of this plant. I gardener for Hummingbirds in zone 8b and this looks like it would be a good addition. I have two native Erythrinas here, on is Crybaby Tree and the other is called a Mamou. I'll have to look up the latin names for you if you want. I do have pictures I can share of them if anyone's interested.

Supposedly it's hardy to the upper 20s, and below that it can sometimes grow back from the roots... but don't count on it... easy to grow from seed, as most Erythrina are... but very difficult from cuttings.

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Is this a plant or a tree? I have a couple of Erithrinas growing (12 inches tall) with me. What may be the ideal location for this? Does it have thorns all over? Very pretty blooms though! How big is this bloom?

If grown in a cactus garden, as it is in these photos, it is a shrub. If grown as a tree in a good soil and watered well, it is fast growing to a 10-15' tree... but that's about all. It is covered with rose-like thorns very heavily. Flowers about 4" in diameter.
