seeds of distinction

Is anyone aware of or had dealings with this company out of Toronto? It seems they might be doing a POD thing.

Have you read the Watchdog about them? The ratings are a few years old but they would scare me off. It's pretty easy to order from Plants of Distinction, and the shipping charges are reasonable. I don't think they are associated, but why are you curious about them?

I saw them listed on an American site with the top seed companies and a notation that they have special prices and delivery arrangements for americans - then I noticed the Toronto address and was curious so I went to their site and wondered why I hadn't heard of them.

Now you got me wondering about Plants of Distinction too. I see someone is complaining about their germination rates. I haven't planted everything I ordered from them yet. Some were going to be direct sowed. Can't get the Alpine Clematis or Cardiocrinum to go. Other Clematis in the same tray are starting, and Alpine is supposed to be one of the easier ones. Queeny Hollyhocks and Silene Jack Flash were OK. Wonder how Lilypon and the others made out with theirs. Didn't you order from there too, 'june.

Yes i did and so far germination is pretty good - the queenies, my snaps etc but I have some that are pretty strange - 2to4 weeks with bottom heat and then 2to4 weeks at 40 to 45 degrees F so I don't know how those (hellebores) will make out as they just went into the cold frame stage some others were the reverse of that cold first and now bottom heat (frittilaria etc) so won't know about those either. The low germination on the passion fruit vines was probably operator error. So far no Frogswell Doris has germinated which was guide A (no particular problems - but who knows)

Aren't Hellebores one of those that you have to plant fresh seeds. Maybe you'd have better luck if you sowed them in the fall. Some of these germination guides are pretty complicated. Some seeds just want to grow anyway, and others are stubborn no matter how you try to coax them out.
As long as we're having fun, I suppose.
