I'm so confused, I read postings that say sun for brugs and some that say dappled sunlight. I have no dappled sunlight, and no areas of afternoon shade either, so where do you plant a brug, like the Snowbanks for instance? What are some good recommendations for windblocks? This is my first year to have brugs, and I even have a few seedlings that have managed to make it to the 10" mark that I started in January, now where to put them? How do you promote flowering?
At a TOtal Loss
You can keep your Snowbank on the East side or even the North side of your home or under a bush, eve of the house, whever it can get some relief from the sun. Wind blocks are tough unless you build a fence or make a fence using shrubs or pines. Is there some way you can make a little light shade and a wind block so you can put your seedlings outside? If you have no trees, it might be tough. You could start them on the north side in the shade of the house and gradually move them into the sun. As far as promoting flowering on seedlings, just fertilize them and left them grow. It will be a while as seedlings take a while to make their first Y. Good luck.
I have mine in full sun only because there is no shade, but i have soaker hoses on all of them and water often when it gets in the 90's here. they droop really bad everyday starting at 1;00 and they don't perk back up till about 4 or 5 pm!!
Be careful Amanda I lost 4 in to much sun this past summer and now 3 more have not come back.
I am planning on keeping my Snowbank and other Varis on my front porch.
I had Maya in full sun last year and it done fine. I put Snowbank and Peaches and Cream in dappled shade.
I have no shade so i will just have to take my chances . i water regularly. so i am hoping that my new ones this year will be okay.
