Root (where are you) I got a bloom

Mesilla Park, NM

This opened up this morning. Does anyone know what it is or type it is?

This one is the same one. See that dolly to the right of the brug, that is for trash cans, but the wheels are just so smooth that I got three of them (I have a low back problem), they make my life alot easier.. I just wheel them over with no effort. They run about 30.00 apiece, but they are worth it. The other plastic ones that I got for plants, just bent and were horrible, and got stuck everywhere.. Now I use these and buy one whenever I get a chance (or save up for one) ..

This one shows my cannas coming to life, Redstripe and some Tropicanna, and Tropicanna Gold somewhere in there.

Very pretty, Gourd but I'll let the experts name the Brug. The bloom looks like my SunRay.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

You know Ada,Sunray was my first thought,Thanks for the bloom Gourd, sure nice to come in here and have a nice bloom with my name on it,LOL!!!
I thought Sunray had serrated leaves???And the coloring is light green.
Gourd my poor little Stutgart withered on me,sorry:0(

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

You're right Root but the bloom looks the color of the SunRay.

LOL I said I'd leave it to the experts.

Well maybe Kyle will be in here soon,he will know if it is one of his.

Oh so sorry about the Stuttgart, they are so slow to multiply too, that is why the bulb was so small. Mine are just starting to peek through. Hope that the others did alright. The Stuttgart is like the Snowbank Brug, likes dappled shade to shade. I should have told you. Mine are in a 15 gallon pot on the patio.

Well, if it is a sunray, that is wonderful.. I had been wanting one for a long time. woohoo..

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Other Cannas are doing great!! I have them under lights,I sure did not think lights would be too strong for it.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

You know,I just went and pulled that bulb,it is still firm, and looks good,I am not giving up,I love that canna,I repotted and put under Brugs,I will give it shade,I sure do not want to lose it!It was so kind of you to share it with me!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Whatever it is, it will bring you pleasure, I'm sure. I don't believe it is Sunray because of the foliage being darker green and not serrated as Bob mentioned. Did you have Tragedy 2001? It looks a little creamy in color, so probably not it either. Just trying to guess here.

Hi Brugie,
I still have Tragedy 2001, it is in another pot and the leaves are long and thin on it. I didn't know that I had to fertilize them alot, so this year they are doing better and growing faster. Will take a picture of it tomorrow. It has only bloomed for me one time, but now it is really growing (must be the fert..). I was not a good brug mommy for a long time.. but, I am changing my ways.

This one was given to me by a woman here in California, she just said it was white and she gave me the first one I had which is yellow/orange. We didn't know they had names. We did know there was a pink one somewhere out there.. (can you imagine that?) lol..

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I think for several years that is all anyone knew. Pink, white, and yellow. My, how the times have changed.

Fertilizer will do wonders. Bet you will have plenty of blooms to smell this year.

Root,
Stuttgart is used as a pond canna in several of the watergardens. I don't know if it would do better in a pond or not. I don't have a pond (well, I do have a pond kit in a box that has been there for 3 years).. someday.....

They are slow growers, some of the canna rhizomes on others are huge, and these are very small and thin.

Glad to hear the others are doing well. Mine are starting to come up really fast now that the weather has warmed up. The tags have faded on most of them, so I will have to start id'ing them again this year when they bloom.

Shirley, This year should be better for me. Most of my cuttings are doing really bad (because I washed them, sprayed them, did all kinds of things to them to get rid of the aphids), but the seedlings are all doing really well, so there is hope for some blooms there.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Gourd.I have been running it on the dry side, maybe that is my problem, will keep it watered well.Thx.

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Such a pretty bloom!....

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

The cuttings should perk up now Gourd. Tell me, what is that huge leaf to the right of your picture. The huge leaf with a reddish border. Is that the one you call redstripe canna?

I have a low back problem also. I hate it!

Mesilla Park, NM

Oh Kell, that's Redstripe, it gets real big and alot taller, they get a good 8-10 feet tall, that was the first year, so they may get even taller the second year. I have a jungle out here.. will get you a better photo of it in the daytime.. it has redstripes (literally).. Australia is in the back somewhere, it is also starting to come up, it is almost black, it is so dark. Not very tall, about 4 feet. But is gorgeous. Some of the cannas are pushing up the bricks on the ground, those rhizomes are stronger than I thought. (I was a canna freak before being a brug lover) so have acquired over 70 varieties and some un-named, mostly cuz I lost the tags..lol.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You sound like me!!

Your yard looks great. I love a jungle.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

LOL

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

LOL! CC,Momma would kick my butt,if it does not smell great, it does not get Garden space, that is her motto.

Mesilla Park, NM

Kell, I couldn't find this post, but finally have photos of the leaves for Redstripe.. sorry it took me so long.

Root, I can't get my hubby to smell the brugs, he thinks he is going to get an instant allergy headache... he might, I don't know.. Has anyone had serious allergies to Brugs that we know of?

I think Kyle can tell you of someone that had a serious allergy. I don't remember the story, but it wasn't good.
