Dad and I grafted all the seedling apples we could find in the pasture - this fall, we'll move all those that took into the orchard. But, as we were finding apple seedlings, we also found a few healthy plum seedlings. Now, we know that they will likely fall prey to whatever-it-is that makes the thicket of wild plums to the west of the house drop its fruit, so my question is, can I graft my Great-grandma's gage plum onto them? It seems to be doing ok, it has been growing here for over ten years, from a foot-high seedling and has finally gotten big enough to bear fruit. I am assuming the methods for grafting plums would be the same as apples.
Thanks,
Cedar
Grafting Plum trees?
Yes the technique is the same, But depending on how far your trees have broken dormancy, budding may be a more viable option. Green Gage should take all right on a wild goose plum.
None of them have broken dormancy just yet - they will in about a week, I think. So I'll have to get out there in the rain, looks like :(
Thank you, Farmerdill
