This is not a brug, but it's been blooming all week

Mesilla Park, NM

It almost looks purple.

Is that a hibiscus? Wow, it's beautiful!

I sure would look cool if you could snuggle one of those in with a brug. Maybe from a distance you could pretend there is a purple brug then. Pretty. I think I had this hibiscus a couple of years ago. Mine had very coarse and hairy leaves. I didn't have good luck getting it to bloom for me. Probably should have kept it for one more year. Nice picture A.

Yes, an orange or yellow brug with it would be eyepopping!
Not that it isn't pretty alone, but I love purple with orange, peach or yellow.

I thought this was purple! Perfect for our Easter display.

I had the lighter variety of this one but I could never make it grow brushy. It was always too wispy. I wonder if this variety would grow better?

Ok I am a purple freak is it a hibiscus? Is it hardy? It sure is pretty. (trying to figure out where Gourd lives so I can plan a plant raid) lol Woops CA that means flying your plant is safe.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

This is beautiful. I have never seen a hibiscus like this one.
Ok Gourd, we need the name of this one . . lol
I can see now that I will definitely have to put in other beds to accomodate my obsession.

Mesilla Park, NM

It's in Dave's Plant Data Base, CLare and Monterey both entered their photos in there under "Blue Hibiscus".. I had another one and it disappeared (gophers I think), they left no trace. They do have them at Lowes in one gallon pots, this year I noticed that they put them where the vines are.

I can try to root some if you guys can give me advice on how to.. lol.

It will grow into a rather large bush or bushy tree depending how you look at it. Some are 8' or so around here. Mystic, you are probably out of luck as far as hardy in 6a. Do you have a canopy bed? Train it to go over and you could have a canopy of purple flowers.

I think Clare said she had no luck rooting this one. Maybe she will stop by with some suggestions or tell you what didn't work.

That is beautiful. Time to go shopping. Really pretty Gourd.

Orange Park, FL(Zone 8b)

Sure is pretty :)

If you are shopping for one, I notice that they are calling this a "Santa Cruz" hibiscus this year.

Whitewater, WI

Oh man, why is it that the chain stores in my area never have any of the plants that you guys can buy? Everytime somebody says: "go to HD or Lowes...." not around here.
Pitts, I tell ya....pitts

Hi Guys! Antoinette, your plant is gorgeous!

Shirley is quite right that I had difficulty rooting this one this past fall and winter and never was successful. I cut off quite a few branches trying! It probably was just the wrong time of year and perhaps the wrong method. I think the nurseries probably root hardwood, but I can't be sure of that. Seeds are very hard to get to germinate and need to be scarified. Here's a good link: http://www.meden.demon.co.uk/Malvaceae/Alyogyne/Alyogyne.html

I have Santa Cruz, which is a light lavender, and Purple Delight, which is a darker purple.

I've purchased several of these over the past few years and have never been able to keep one alive for more than a few weeks. I don't know if I overwater or underwater them. I just love them but, obviously, do something wrong.
