Barnyard Tea Recipe

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Do any of you have a recipe for Barnyard Tea? If so, does it smell as bad as it used to and have any of you used t and, was it worth the effort?? I remember my grandmother using it one day and it seemed like the plants would be blooming the next day. I was a child, so I'm sure it didn't happen that quickly. I just cannot remember everything she used in it. TIA!!! SherryLike

we use chicken manure. we put about 3 or 4 lbs wrapped up in a pillow case and hang it in a 32 gal. pail. and seep it for a week or 2 then dilute it 20 (water) to 1 (manure).

I use horse manure, stuff it in a stocking(yes,I have to go to the store and buy nylons for this) and hang it on the side of a barrel full of water.I use the water after a few days and just refill the barrel.I do this for about 5 or 6 fillings and then put a new stocking full in it.The big tubs you can get at wally world or KMart ,the ones with the handles work well cause you can tie the stocking to it,plus with the handle you can drag it around a little....

CC: Would knee-hi nylons be the best. I think nylons are the gardeners all around best friend.

I've never tried the knee highs....bet thigh high's would work good.I usually buy a cheap pair and cut the legs off at the top. Then you have an extra to use later .I like them being long so you can knot it at the top......and tie it to the handle

I think I better go to the pasture and then give this a try.

CC: Thanks, I do have an old pair of panty hose. I now have lots of horse manure to work with. Our neighbors have about 20 horses and do they manufacture the manure.

Thanks to all for the recipes!!! I've been outta town and returned home to monsoons, I'm not sure it will ever dry out and I hope it will not hurt my brugs. I supposed it will do no good to fertilize until it drys up some, correct??? My grandmother used a flour sack to make her Barnyard Tea and I cannot part with the few I have left. So, I'll use the panty hose too. I'm already using panty hose for the cement pond filter, to keep the dog hair out.

Questons:

Will Barnyard Tea burn my brugs???

If I use Barnyard Tea, should I also contnue the purchased fertilizer?

Approximately how much Barnyard Tea should be used per plant?

I have read where you can use old pillow cases for the barnyard tea.

Some people dilute it to a weak tea color,I use it as a medium tea color...
I have never burned my brugs with it but if you use it do it as a weak tea first....I use my other fertilizers too,I just alternate, don't want them getting board and I figure I'm covering more bases using it
