Can anyone share the best method of sending cuttings that have been soil? How much dirt do you remove, how do you wrap them..help me, please.
How do I ship rooted cuttings?
Hi,
I'm a newbie, but I can tell you how they were sent to me by one of the "experts" at this site.
They had been in small (maybe 4") pots, and she simply took them out of the pot and left the root ball intact, you could still see the shape of the pot. They were well watered, and each root ball was put in a ziploc or wrapped in plastic. Each plant was then wrapped in newspaper and placed in a box. (And of course she had them marked with a plastic marker as to the variety).
They took about 3 - 4 days to arrive at their new home, and they were in wonderful condition. Not even a wilted leaf.
Thank you so much for the reply, I have to get some sent out today and was not sure how to do it.
I'm so glad I could help. I'm sure they will arrive at their new home and make someone a happy gardener!
If you don't want to pay higher postage, you can shake the soil off the roots and wrap some damp paper towels around them and then foil or plastic and then in newspaper and ship that way too. Works just fine as long as you mail Priority Mail. Good explanation Tree_Climber.
We use Brugies method except we use damp spraghnum moss instead of the towels.Towels work fine.Anything that keeps the roots moist will work.Brugs are hard to kill except the very expensive ones which die if the temp changes 1 degree.
LOL gone2seed..I understand that.
I like to rinse the roots and use moss or paper towels,I hate to pay to ship dirt.
