Hi All. I found this site last winter, and finally joined last week when spring fever really got me in it's clutches. My name is Lisa, and I live in NY on Lake Erie. I mean right on Lake Erie, it's my back yard. The lake offers a micro climate that enables me to experiment with plants that should not really be hardy this far north. It's so much fun to see what has survived after the snow melts.
When we moved into this house there was one Shasta Daisy plant and some Peonies. That winter I broke my leg skiing in Montana, and was in the hospital on a Moriphine pump for 3 weeks. (bad break) I had a bunch of garden catalogs to read in the hospital, and a credit card. You should have seen the line up of UPS trucks the following srping. Needless to say, I am into gardening big time. I love roses, clematis, delphiniums, columbines, peonies, and what the heck, I just love them all. You all seem so friendly and knowledgable, I am really looking forward to learning from you.

Wow, tough way to get into gardening. I hope the leg is okay now. Sounds like you are well on your way to having a gorgeous yard. Welcome to Daves. Here you will sure find answers to questions, trades, co-ops for some great plants/bulbs, and much, much more. Especially, you will find lots of friendly people who share your love of gardening. I can't wait to meet you in some of the forums. Generally I spend most of my time in Brugs and Friends, Tropicals, and Vines and Climbers with a few more on the side that I try to visit almost daily. Have a great time here in the garden and be sure to open the gate for your friends and neighbors. They would love it here too. Have a great day.
Hi lwkbriggs, and Welcome to Dave's Garden. We look forward to hearing more from you and seeing pictures from your unique on-the-lake garden. Glad you found us!

Hi Lisa and Welcome to Dave's. I'm sure you're going to love it here.
Welcome!! Stick with gardening, it's a lot safer than skiing. We are glad to have you with us here on the greatest gardening site on the web.
welcome from Michigan
I luv the story-ordering from the hospital-I think i may use that next time-sorry honey it was the morphine! ;)
Hope your healing well and your garden is growing!
welcome to our site!

Thanks all for the great welcome. I am sitting at my computer gazing at the ice still on the lake and willing it to disappear. I will post photos when it looks a little more like NY and less like Siberia. By the way, I do still ski...after all It brought me to gardening!!
Welcome from Southern Ohio... you've got some great addictions going! We'll have to get you hooked on a few more!
Welcome here from IA. I'm having zone envy here, also the fact that it's not too far from my Dad! I chuckled over the hosp. story (er-r-r not the broken leg, the catalog ordering!) An excellent way to get lots of new plants!
Unfortunately I can't blame the Morphine any more, and the UPS trucks just keep comming. Do they have rehab for gardening addicts?
No rehab, just co ops. The addicts best friend.
Welcome from Ohio, lwkbriggs!
Melissa, you took the words right out of my mouth. Co-op's, trades, plants for SASE...There's sooo much trouble we can get into here.
I have already found the spring lily co op. I think I'm in big trouble here!
Ahhhhh shucks!!!! I got soooo excited when I saw Newbie on Lake Erie!!!! Right lake, wrong state! LOL Welcome lwkbriggs! Can't wait to hear about and see pics of your new garden!
A late welcome from Utah! Has the ice melted on your part of Lake Eerie yet? I'm sure it's beautiful where you live even when everything's frozen. But yes it's hard to garden in frozen dirt. I lived in Upstate NY for a while and loved it. I'm originally from SoCal and NY showed me what a real fall is supposed to look like!
Welcome again and I sure Dave's Garden will help you get your "fix".
I am a transplant from California, Colorado, Montana and Florida. My friends acted like there had been a death in the family when we told them that we were moving north from Florida, but I really love upstate New York. I LOVE the seasons...The best part is living on the lake. Watching the thunderstorms blow down the lake and put on a light show that would be the envy of any rock band. I also (no I am not nuts) really love the blizzards. We have the trees lit in the back, and it is magical when the snow falls. It's the best place to garden. If I get too hot in the summer, I just walk right down to the beach and go for a swim. The last of the ice went out today. Lots of wind to break the last burgs up. My bulbs are blooming on the south side of the house, but are a week away on the north (lakeside). Here is a photo taken a month ago. Pretty scary!!! Thanks for all your warm welcomes. I look forward to chatting and seeing the photos of your gardens.
