My new baby (and second brug purchase)

Mount Hermon, LA(Zone 8b)

I received a new little brugmansia 'Snowbank' yesterday. I found out how to care for the first one I purchased (a peach), but was wondering if the variegated leaves makes this one more 'tender'?

I found this one does not do well with heat and sun. It will be okay if kept in afternoon shade, but it seemed that mine would brown around the edges if left in sun after about 11 AM. When the sun isn't hot, like in early spring and late fall, mine did okay with a little more sun.

Dear LA Sweet Pea: I love verigated plants, but understand in our area(s), I'm 8b, that verigated plants require extra care, likely less in your area, I'm 8b, but, I was born in the Quarter in New Orleans. While you have strong sun, I assume that you have considerable rain, which, unfortunately, during most summers, I do not. SLike

Hmmmm. I'd better be extra-careful with this one. We have a LOT of heat and sun (and humidity) around the New Orleans area. I think my little bruggies will need a partly-shaded area with protection from the blazing afternoon sun. Thanks!

That is very pretty! I'd like to see a pic of a full grown one with variegated leaves

I'll look for a picture Karrie. This one is supposed to have white blossoms.

There is a picture in the Plants Database:

Actually, the blooms are a light peach color. I'm not convinced yet that this one will ever be as good as Maya. Maya just doesn't quit, no matter what the climate. Snowbank may need a lot more nurturing to get her to grow and bloom as well.

I looked up 'Maya' in the PD -- wow, that is a pretty one! What are those okra-looking pods hanging down? Will those develop into the flowers? Or is that a seed pod?

I feel SO ignorant about these plants. Have to do some research.

The other brug I have is a 'peach versicolor.' Now I have to look up what 'versicolor' means. LOL.

This one hasn't been a bloomer for me. It's been one of my disappointing brugs (which is almost impossible) considering how brug obsessed I am. Maya on the other hand is gorgeous. It's hard not to taken in by the varigated foilage. This one will probably get tossed next year. Sounds like the versicaolor peach & snowbanks combo must have come from good ol' Joe. Look at the photos on ABADS for a wealth of info!

ABADS? Is that an organization for brugs?

Yes it is. They have a great gallery of pictures. It is worth the trip over there to take a look.

I could spend hours in the gallery at ABADS! What fun it is on a day like today....cold and rainey! Ugh!
