Poppysue's Passiflora

Mount Angel, OR(Zone 8a)

Poppy, the passiflora you sent me last summer has been in my greenhouse and is now full of buds. I can't wait to see what color it will be. Pebble was the one who discovered all the buds. I hadn't even noticed. Kind of dense here. I think this is a plant you had pollinated the seed and grew from that seed. I am not sure how hardy it will be. Looking forward to this, any ideas what color it will be,Poppy?

I'm wondering if it's the same seedling I have from poppysue. It was Vitifolia x Citrina, or something close to that name. Mine is growing well, but no buds yet, I will have to check it closer.

Help us out here Sue.

Wow! I'm glad to hear it's done so well :) They are Vitifolia x Incarnata. The seeds were from Calalily's cross. No saying what the blooms will turn out like since they're a hybrid. Maybe they'll be purple... or maybe red? I can't wait to find out. Keep us posted!

I'm hoping for red! I have a lot of different purple ones.

Thank you Sue.

Me too, Hibiscus, wouldn't red be just scrumptious? I have even seen red ones for sale here this year and they are not hardy here.

None of them are hardy here. I keep mine in pots and take in for the winter.

Lenjo, if they are red and I didnt snatch a cutting I'll be kicking myself all the way back to turkey. Be sure you post a photo of the flower. I'm hoping for red!!!
Your greenhouse was marvelous, and no wonder you didnt see the buds girl, you have so much on your hands right now and getting ready for your daughters wedding and what not.
By the way, thanks again for the plants for my sisters garden, and the marionberries for me.
cheers!!!

I think Susie's plan with this cross was to make a hardier red. Let's hope it works!

My passies have been hanging on by the skin of their teeth this winter. I think several are dead now. I'm not sure which ones will make it and which ones are goners.

Mine have all done well overwinter, they all have new growth now, so I am taking cuttings, when I have time, as everything else is needing care at the same time.

Pebble explained to me the best time for cuttings was right after bloom by taking the tips of the new growth. I was planning on trying this. This actually is exactly how the marionberries we raise here on the farm start new plants. You put the tips of the new canes under the soil in October and they put out roots through the winter. Then when the plant shoot begins to come through the soil in the spring you cut them loose from the mother plants. Sound familiar for passiflora?

Have gotten sidetracked with many other activities here including a wedding but Poppysue's passiflora is blooming in the GH. It is a lavendar one like the caerula that I can grow outside here but the crown is curved back some; at least more than caerula. I will be planting outside soon. Thanks, Poppysue.

Take some pictures when you can. I'd love to see it. I'm glad to hear it bloomed for you...
