Good morning farmers and friends. This morning I was out taking pictures just as the sun was comming up. The picture looks warmer than I was.
Yesterday I planted tomato and squash seeds in cell packs, a job that always takes more time than I think it will. They are sitting on a heat mat (old waterbed heater) waking up since the greenhouse temperature is about 55 at night. My neighbor wants to buy plants from me this year so I planted some extras for her, and some for my sister, and a few for another neighbor. I'm trying some new varieties of tomatoes this season, one is called Red Horizon and the other is an heirloom from Russia. They might turn out to be the same thing but they came from 2 different sources and the seeds look different.
The whole flock of 150 ewes with all their lambs are grazing in our pasture now. There isn't much grass yet but they have over 70 acres and will only be there a few days. It's good for weed control since they eat the thistles and also the green and tender cheatgrass. The whitetop weeds might also be slowed down by trampling by so many feet.
This morning I need to go to town, then bundle myself up and ride Breezy when I get home. The wind is cold but he needs to be ridden. My neighbor just came over and asked me to help him move cattle today, we'll bring them to the corrals and wean the summer born calves. They will be put out in a pasture with a double hot fence between them, the calves don't get so frantic that way because they can see their mothers but just can't reach them. Every couple of days the space between them gets increased.
Have a great day everyone, count your blessings.
