Hostas around the trees: "timeless classic" or tres cliche?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Okay, I have about 30-40 hostas in 4" and quart-size containers (the result of grabbing a few bags of bare-root plants last year - 'Gold Standard' and a couple others - plus a few more selective purchases.) They're now good-sized plants, and I thought about selling them, but then I looked at my front yard, where we have three huge silver maples (another story in and of itself) which are a pain to mow around. So is it just too overdone to create slightly raised beds and place a ring of hostas around the base of each tree? It would sure help the mowing efforts... Anyone have any better ideas for these plants and/or the trees????
