Jumpin in with both feet

I am fairly new to DG and hope this is the correct way to start a thread. Root showed me Brug's for the first time yesterday & I am hooked. They are spectacular! I really would like to grow them. I am not quite sure what protocol is used to say "HELP" I need seeds or cuttings. I don't even know how you start them. So I have exposed my ignorance and am at the mercy of you good people. Please set me straight if I have done this wrong. Your guidance is requested & very much required.
Thanks,
txkitty

Kitty, a lot of us won't have cuttings until later on in the year. If I were you and if no one has any to offer at this time, I'd contact Tracey or one of the other growers that sell brugs and see if you can get one of the easiest to grow and get used to how they grow, the fertilizing needs, and all the problems that bugs can give you. Also where to place them for the best end results. I started with one and nearly killed it the first year because I didn't know what I was doing and needed more help than there was available. Now, Daves Garden is here to help newbies and oh how I wish it had been here when I started. Growing seeds is something that isn't always totally successful either. Feel free to ask questions here. You did NOT do anything wrong in your questioning. We all started where you are and those of us who have been growing them enjoy helping others with answers about growing brugs. Don't ever hesitate to ask. Someone once told me that the only dumb question is the one that was never asked. Made me feel much better. Believe me, I've asked my share. By the way, for bloom this summer, you will need a good cutting. Seeds aren't likely to bloom this year but if started in the winter, they will usually produce blooms the first summer. I'm rambling now. Jump right in and hopefully someone else will jump in and have a cutting or two that you can start with.

Brugie, thanks for the information. I have a lot to learn. I have gotten lucky & 2 people have been kind enough to share cuttings with me. From what I have had the chance to read they sound like the best way for a beginner to go. Gee, I sure hope so. I want some of those big beautiful flower trees in my yard! It has to be wonderful when you have had a bad day to be able to clear your mind & just ponder something so serene and pretty. Now comes the part I hate - the wait. Not for them to arrive but for them to grow. Please tell me they grow FAST. But hey, nothing worth having comes easy.

Sounds like you did well Kitty, they grow pretty fast, with the proper care, you will have blooms before you know it.

I'm sure glad you got some cuttings to start out with. This fall you should be able to get a lot more.
