Look what I just found outside hiding!
Did we decide this one was hard to get a pod on?
Anyone know the parents? What color would be good if I decided to pollinate it?
Funny, when I first saw this one, I just had to have it and now so many brugs later, it hardly moves me. I am so brug spoiled! Maybe if it weren't so green.
Please remind me
This is not one of my favorites either Kell, I can do without it.
I've gotten a couple of pods on SW but managed to knock them off before they got big enough to even have viable seeds.
It is early in the year,I would be tempted to toss some pollen at it.
First you have to find the reproductive parts in her and that is a job in itself. I love the fragrance on this one, but would never place her where she showed up a lot because she is really messy.
Oh right, I remember you saying that Brugie! This one is small, though I have had it a long time, I never moved it from a gallon can. Brug abuse! Well, out I go to do a bloomvic! LOL
For some reaon I htguht I had heard it was sterile.
SW has never been a favorite of mine either. The flower doesnt look very inviting!
I agree, Monika. The blooms aren't very pretty at all but it has a good fragance.
Gosh guys, you all are going to make me keep this poor brug. I always end up rooting for the underdog and having a special place in my heart for the unloved!
Anyone know the history on how this one came to be and where? See, my attachment is beginning. LOL
Kell, this is off the ABADS page
"B. x candida 'Shredded White Fantasy' (the true name) is also called Shredded White and Fantasma
This cultivar was discovered by Bruce Pearson at the Tropical World de las Flores, a botanical propagation center in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. The shredded flower resembles Methysticodendron (B. aurea "Culebra") classified by Professor Schultes, only the leaves are normal and the flower is at least a double! Tropical World de Las Flores is managed by the Rare Species Conservatory Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation. 'Shredded White Fantasy' Introduced by Native Habitat Ethnobotanicals"
I can't wait for mine to bloom then I will know how I really feel about it. I think I will love it cause it is soooo unusual.....
I would try and polinate it with something too. Don't know what though.....but it would be the best I could find or had on hand.
Dee
still waiting for a bloom on mine!
Thanks Sue, so it occurred by the hand of nature not man! Interesting!
I have a small one but it just had one bloom on it last year. I thought the bloom was so neat. So Kell I will help ya root for it. lol
Dee, I was going to pollinate mine last year but never found anything to polinate.LOL I had one flower on mine that was so different from the shredded ones. I liked it but it was the only one it produced. The bloom was more like the Culebra.
Awwww! Now I hear the bad traits! Hi folks! I am new to brugs also and just bought SW off the net. I hope I am not diappointed. I'm like Kell and have a tendency to find the beauty in the ugly! lol
Anyone have any extra cuttings or seed, I would be very grateful to receive them....Thanks!
Welcome to the brug forum. Gosh, where were you last fall when there were cuttings flying all over the country? LOL!! I'm down to just what I need for growing now. Maybe someone wall come along and help you out. I think you will like your shredded white once you get used to it. Sure nothing like any of the regular brugs though.
Welcome YTRN! Glad to see you here. You will fall in love with it! Some of us have so many we get jaded. LOL
I've got a SW, too. I like mine, though, it tends to drop so many buds before maturity. I tried to pollinate a couple flowers last fall, but like everyone else, lol, finding the stigma can be difficult! I never got any pollen from mine, either.
Mine just finished blooming. I'll keep it if just for the smell. I really like it's scent. The flower, ugly yes, but different.
Wouldn't you know, out of all the cuttings I received last Fall, this one rooted the easiest. Definitely not one of my favorites.
Now I may have to try one just for the scent, see what you started.
