self watering Brugs

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

Can a brug stand being moist all the time?
I was looking at a thread on building a self watering pot out of tote box's from wallmart for planting tomatoes. large enough for a brug too.
I use homemade self watering pots out of CD and DVD disk containers for my seedlings and they are doing fine. will post pictures is anyone is interested.
Wanted to know is anyone else has ever had any experance at this. Mine are all experments

The pot and plant

You need three covers and cut as shown. The short one with the sides cut and bottom cut out is inserted into the water pot upside down for the planting pot to set on. Also you can use another cover or a housing lid over the plant.
You can see the roots of the Brug thru the pot.

How clever! But the pot does not look big enough to hold the brug in for long. I do not know if it will get root rot or not. Try one and see.

I think I remember someone growing brugs on steps in a pool last summer, and the steps were below water level.

Great idea, but those CD cases would get a little expensive. I'd never in my lifetime use one case of them. I'm sure I can find something else that would also work. Thanks for the picture.

The plant has developed two kinds of roots. The water bound root is stronger than the soil bound sucker roots. Since it has to be repotted with continuing growth, the plant has to form after each potting more sucker roots as usual for water and nourishment transport.

gee Brugie, Tom goes thru them like crazy! He has as many CDs as I have plants! LOL. He has been busy making CDs on every live rock n roll show ever done from the 60s thru the 70s!

The one that shows in the pot was started from seed and you can see the size of it. It needs to be repotted as you can see the roots thru out the pot. The plant never sets in water. Only the cloth wick is sticking down into the water. I used a soldering gun to put a center hole in the pot and four other holes for air to get in the bottom of it.
Victory Life church uses lots of CD's to send out the word. We send them out all over the US and some abroad. Look us up on the internet. Also send out loads of free tapes. What I was wondering is how a big brug would do in a big home made one. Calalily gave me the seeds. CG X Ep and BP or CDW

I like the looks of it,it would be nice for long weekends away.
Those crosses sound great,I hope you get a beauty out of them!

I don't know why it wouldn't work. What would you use for a bigger set up?

Seen one made out of tote box's from wallmart. One was cut down to fit upside down inside the other one. With a pond basket under it for a soil wick. Pvc pipes above it to the outgside of the box for air. A Fill tube went all the way to the bottom for filling until it came out the overflow. Will try to find the internet address for it again and post it.

Looks like you would have to start out with that and put a cutting in to start and let it grow. I guess a seedling would work also if you didn't mess it up putting the top on. I think I'd only have one plant in it if it was a brug. I'm sure that would work great, but boy, that is a lot of trouble to go to, especially if you have a lot of brugs that need plant sitting. The expense would be big too. I'd like to try it with a tomato or two just to see how it works. The before and after pictures sure look good. Thanks.
