I barely know how to use e-mail, but my daughter (Pins2006) insisted that I join this web site. I have so many questions to ask everybody here. My main interest is roses. I have approximately 500 roses, so I will definitely be visiting the Rose Forum. I would like to know the best markers to identify my roses so they don't fade over the summer. I look forward to meeting all of you.

Welcome to Daves, Anita. It's great to have you here. I can't imagine having 500 roses. My gosh, I'd never get anything done. Hope you enjoy your stay. It's a great place.

Welcome Anita_Rose! Love your Garden name. I am also looking forward to seeing pictures of your roses. I have experimented with several garden markers myself in an attempt to come up with one that will not wear off or sun bake or whatever, and I have to confess, I haven't found the perfect marker yet. I have to go through and revitalize my plant names at least once a year, usually in the Spring. I did notice one marker that in addition to being "permanent" it also indicated it was "water proof". Of course I'll probably never find that one again:-)
Anyway, you have come to the friendliest gardening spot on the Internet, and we're glad you're here.

Anita_Rose,

Welcome to Dave's. We are always ready to welcome another gardener to our little garden on the web!

500 roses, Oh my goodness, that's a lot of roses. Can't wait to see pics.

No suggestions for markers either. I'm trying laminated labels this year.

Welcome Anita_Rose....I bet your yard smells wonderful with all those roses....I'm sort of partial roses as that's my middle name....but we grow mostly veggies for resale...12 acres to be almost exact. Kathy @ Misty Meadows

Hi and Welcome to DG
I have recently found a marker made by Sharpie called "Industrial Strength" and it actually seems to stay bright and clear on the plastic markers no matter what I have done to them.

I have also had very good luck using some called laundry markers made by "sanford" and called "rub a dub".

These are the two best ones that I have found and have stayed even on the popsicle sticks that I used to use.

Hope this helps.

Welcomme...You have found a wonderful place to hang your gardening hat!!

A lot of us cut the slats out of old venetian shades for plant markers...haven't found the perfect marker yet, but I heard that Wal-Mart sells a Garden Marker Pen...haven't remembered to look for one.
