Tillandsia in the garden....

Northern California, CA

Here's one of my Tillandsia projects, just out of the greenhouse. The moss and Tillandsia are glued on an old weathered board with a special glue.

Some are in bloom now and I missed getting pics of some that are already done....they can sneak up on you if you don't watch carefully.

Those are really nice.I just got a new one ,too.

Happenstance, those are lovely, you did a wonderful job of arranging them. I have purchased arrangements from craft shows at various times, seems like the glue lets loose and I am running around picking up scattered air plants. All the ones that fell off the wreath are stuffed into orchid pots until I decide what to do with them. You have given me some ideas to play with, thank you.

Afternoon! Time to come inside, the wind has come up and it's cold out there.

These plants prefer to be ignored, so once I get them arranged I really do not tend to them. They get overspray when I water around them, but never feed them or pick at them.

Here's another one on a galvanized dust pan. These are younger plants, but one is already blooming. :-) I have plans to do one on an old straw hat......if I can only find the darn hat, can't remember where I put it. Looks really cute with a bunch of little ones arranged in a circle around the hat.

Hap, look for that straw hat out in the tool shed with the lawn mower/weed eater. That's where we find ours at.

You must devote your life to your plants! LOL. You have everything! And everything you have is so well grown! Do you have help?

Northern California, CA

Kell I had to go back and read that again. :-)

"Do you have help?" No I don't have help.

I first read it as, "Do you need help?" Yes, I need help cause I'm a plantaholic!

Love plants of all kinds and the garden is really fairly low maintenance with a drip irrigation system, but certainly looks better with some daily TLC.

Someday I'm going to have to hire someone to help with the wildland garden....that steep slope just kills my legs. DH does maintain the filtration system on the pond, I think it's a guy thing with the mechanical aspect.

Please excuse my ignorance, but Molly refered to these as air plants. Are these the same kind of plants that grow in our trees here. They really are pretty. I would love to have some arranged like yours.

Molly, if they are like ours in the trees, do you buy them or gather them?

Pati, yes we do have the more common ones growing in the trees, but I have had to buy the more attractive ones in arrangements very much like in these pictures.

Occasionally one of my customers will have some nice ones they will share with me.

Nice customers! I didn't think I had ever seen any so fancy in the trees.

Here is a south Fla. native Tillandsia display I just made.
The hurricanes of the last 2 years knocked so many down that I am always looking to rescue them.

For MollyMc, I noticed you said the glue let loose on some you had purchased. We use Liquid Nails on our projects, and it seems to hold them on quite well with no problem to the plants. Some people use cool glue guns, and they don't hold up in our Florida weather.
