Alstroemeria, Peruvian Lily, Lily of the Incas 'Princess Series'
Alstroemeria hybrid
The delicate shadings in this Princess Lily are very subtle. Shown in April. (San Antonio, Tx.)

The creamy white really looks good with the brownish markings.
Guess what...I do have flower buds starting on 2 of the pieces you gave me! They are very small, just starting to form. I have them in the greenhouse, which has 50 % shadecloth on...I wonder if it will be too shady for them to develop properly? I have kept them out of direct sun because of the plastic sack over them, did not want to cook them. I really did not expect to get any blooms this year at all, so this is great!
They are forecasting a big freeze here tomorrow night...I will get damage because there are just too many things to cover and most are too big. Oh well, it happens about every year.
Oh, no ... a dreaded freeze. You must be so sad. I am so sorry. I am scared we will have one like we did in April lat year, It is quite chilly today after terrific thunderstorms and rain yesterday.
Yea, buds!! I am so happy! The lillies are located where they receive direct sun for only a very short period of time in the morning and as the sun is setting. Total sunshine is about an hour or an hour and a half. The rest of the time they are in filtered shade under an oak tree. At one time, they were located where they received morning sun and afternoon shade. They performed well in this spot. I really don't know what to tell you because the heat is different here. Mine did not do well in full sun. I would say that if the buds are forming that they are probably receiving enough light. I know that when mine were not receiving enough light, no buds formed. I wish I could be more help.
That is very helpful...I will leave them where they are. Maybe by the time the blooms start, I can take off the plastic, LOL.
The forecast is being moderated a little bit...not quite as cold as originally feared...we will see. My bleeding hearts are just starting to get to the really lovely stage and are too big to cover with 5 gallon buckets...I do have one very large container I can use, but I have 6 clumps of bleeding hearts.
Oh, my! How gorgeous! This photo is outstanding! They must make you feel proud of your gardening talent, I attempted to grow bleeding hearts for 2 or 3 yeas and they always came up, then died fairly quickly.
Thanks, Hazel, but really they are not that difficult here. If kept watered and shaded the foliage lasts til late June, then I cut it when I notice the color fading. I read that if you cut off the first flush of growth, they will repeat bloom. One year a hard freeze knocked the plants to the ground and they made more leaves and flowers later in the season, so there might be some truth to that. I am usually hesitant to try drastic steps like that, but I really should see if it works.
It is probably just too hot in TX for them.
Maybe I planted them in too shady of an area. They did not receive very much light.
Mine get sun until mid to late April when the trees leaf out. They get dappled morning sun after that.
We did not get a hard freeze, hooray! It has been 32 degrees, but not the 20's. Now they are saying we might get one next weekend...keeping my fingers crossed they are wrong!
That is great! Here's hoping for the best ... We have had terrific storms with an upper level low swirling in the gulf moisture day after day. Friday I received about 3 inches, Saturday we had a break, Sunday about 2 to 3 inches and this morning 3 inches are more. This doesn't count the rain we had for 2 weeks on and off before this. We need the rain, but we need it spread out a little. The people to the south of San Antonio are flooded. I we receive more here, it will be a big problem. Last year a man with whom my daughter and son went to high school was swept off o road and drowned after we received 18 inches of rain in a short period of time ... I think it was a 2 day period. They did not find his body for 2 or 3 weeks.
Yes I heard on the news that you all are getting too much rain...we need some here! I have had to water several times (just the seedlings and transplants). Too bad about the guy getting drowned. People need to be really cautious about driving into wet areas. A guy died here that way several years ago.
I took the bag off the alstroemeria and it seems to be doing okay without it. The buds are swelling a little, too! Can't wait to see what color it will be.
He had taken the "high" road with which he was not familiar. It usually did not flood but that time it did because we had experienced torrential rain. He went around a curve, saw the flooding river and did not have time to stop. The car semi-floated for awhile, but began sinking. He and his friend decided that they better make a swim for it before the car totally sank. His buddy made it to the bank, but he didn't. Being a midget, he could not float because of the way his body weight was distributed and the raging water was too much for him.
I am betting that the alstroemeria is the lighter pink one.
I love pink, so that would be great!
