Plus it was 72F here today!! Snow or freezing rain in the forecast for tomorrow but good temps again for the weekend.
Now I'm thinkin' spring :D
I've never seen this many geese returning at the same time. We saw at least 20 groups like the one above...what a marvelous sight!
Lilypon it's a nice pic.
Did you read Dave's posting this morning in Dave's Garden? He wouldn't be April fooling us would he? It would be a lie no matter what day you told it. Can't see a person with his Christian values doing that. Would you believe it?
I find it hard to believe it's true....if it is today wouldn't be the day to release the news. But they have been hinting something else besides the Garden Bookworm was in the works so who knows?!?
Gosh, that is a huge flock of geese. It must get pretty loud when they go over. Great picture and just my two cents worth, I don't think he would put that in the opening post of Daves for all non members to read, do you?
Well he did put it there. Go figer.....but he just gave the wink.
I guess we now know why he did it. Makes me feel kinda gullible. LOL!!
Brugie, you weren't alone in that camp.
We usually have thousands of geese at our lagoon, but it's still pretty quiet here. Just a few small flocks. But you can have all the turkeys.
By the way, I found Disney today.
What did you do??????? ;)
They were pretty high up...looking further north.
I'm not sure I did anything..... IgaMi didn't think so. I don't like it there anyway, but if you want to trade, you know this really isn't an active place for Canadians. This forum is used for everything and anything but trading. It's good we at least have this much. Not many talking zone 2 and 3 on this website.
I did hear the geese tonight, after I said they weren't here. Sounded like a lot, heading for the town's lagoon. Winnipeg has a real problem with them at their retention ponds.
It looks like a swarm of bees. I've never seen anything like that many birds.
A lot of Canada Geese stay here during the winter. The first year that our gardens were in (a knockdown/rebuild)I was like a screaming banshee whenever I saw one in the garden. I'm on the water and I had grass. I read that if they find a home and breed they will be back every year. Really, I'd get out of bed and grab a broom and go flailing like a nutcase down to the yard if I saw one. LOL, those birds do not like to be rousted.
I must admit I'm not crazy about them in large numbers but I am happy to see them come back...to me they say *spring* has finally arrived. :D
It doesn't take much to see Disney from what I have read here. Spike blocked me for suggesting books in the water gardening forum, he didn't send me to Disney but did inform me I could rejoin if I paid the membership fees...I paid them here instead.
Hopefully more Canadians will join and the seed and plant trading posts will be just as busy here.
LOL Liz...I remember as a kid being chased by them when walking by the serpentine (they do have a way of getting their point across).
lilypon, I hear you. Some of these birds weigh more than a child,,and they can be mean.
But !! Imagine me in PJ's and a screaming broom! lol. Even dh was mortified.
LOL...were your neighbors out and about???
Yes, we were, Lily.....we could hear her screeching all the way up to our house! I still do the same with the crows!!! There were two crows ripping away at our neighbour's Dogwood tree and dropping bits and pieces all over the place! Go Figure????????
LOL Elaine. Only my early rising neighbors had the joy of my early morning rants. Thank goodness I don't have people behind or in front of me. But it worked, the Canada Geese don't dare land in my garden.
At least you gave your neighbors (who are equally obsessed) a morning chuckle! :D
The geese population seems to have increased by leaps and bounds...hunting of them must have been very regulated. We are still having flocks, mega sized V's, flying over. They are very loud....the early morning flights guarantee a quick awakening.
Our day was a sunny one! And the temperature records were broken all over the outer lying areas of Vancouver....my grand-daughter was running about my garden in her undershirt...the patio is complete now, so first thing I did......was have a cool ice tea!..........lookin' good!
:D This spring is starting off with a bang...+20C here today! :D
We are busy beavers over at my parents' house and am hoping an engineer will be looking at it soon. The exterior was made of brick and the majority of the framing wood is fine but the main beam was damaged and will need alot of work. On the plus side they are looking at increasing the size of the main floor by adding more square feet to the dining room and kitchen and adding on another bedroom. Since the dining room and kitchen are now in the basement that space is open to many changes.
And our yard needs a bit of attention.....

and are they thinking of a greenhouse addition???
a bay window.... maybe.
Can you stretch the bay window to conservatory size?
LOL.....I'll pass your suggestion on to my father Liz!
trouble is thinking spring leads to acting spring - 2 weeks of sunny warm weather; too many weeks of spending many minutes each morning looking for little creatures to kill on my brugs - and you guessed Easter they went outside
they looked so happy with the light breeze ruffling their leaves and the warm sun soaking into their soil and feet
yesterday they were still content but not ecstatic - today they are confined to the garage with the sunblaster and who knows maybe a heater tonite
for someone who has lived practically all her 57 years in the prairie climate - I'm an amazingly slow learner (LOL)
LOL....I think you have been spending too much time reading threads south of the border! A prairie girl putting plants out before June 1st?!? ;)
Looks good. If that location gets 6 hours (min) of direct sunlight you can start digging. Will you be finishing it off with the grey brick? Have you decided on a preformed pond or pond liner? What are you thinking the dimensions will be?
I traded some water lilies with a lady in Ontario and she sent me a box of perennials from her area. Trilliums were in the lot and I just noticed today a number of plants I have never seen before....about 4 inches high with white flower buds! I didn't think they would survive our winter and am getting very excited to see their blooms. No pics....our digital has been sent away...hopefully warranty will cover it's problems.
