Is that a datura?? It's beautiful but it sure doesn't look like mine.

Lappeenranta, Finland(Zone 3a)

Molly, nope, it is Duranta erecta. http://roger.jouet.free.fr/base/photosjuillet2003/duranta.jpg

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Geesh, I'm dyslexic. I see that now. LOL Thanks Mitjo

Molly, they grow into large shrubs here. It's darker purple than the ones I've seen before.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sure is a pretty color.

Montgomery, AL(Zone 8a)

Very pretty. I need one!!!!!!!

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Your my kind of gardener Hummer_Nut....I NEED one too :-)
Seems I never simply WANT a plant I either NEED it or I don't LOL
Thanks for posting such a beautiful pic Calalily, now I have to go find this shrub....cause I NEED one :-)

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Hummer and riker, I will try to start some cuttings. I'm not sure how easy or hard they are to root, but I'll give it a shot.

Montgomery, AL(Zone 8a)

From what I read it should be easy. It want grow into a tree here, but will act like a perennial.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Oh yea! Thanks Calalily! Please check my meager trade list and let me know if there is anything you'd like in trade.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Calalily, do you think you can spare a clipping for me? Those are really gorgeous!

http://www.emilycompost.com/duranta.htm Propagation is done by seed (golden outer skin) or by rooting semi-ripe cuttings in the summer. You can also propagate by layering in the springtime.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I will start a bunch. I think it does have seed now, I will check to see if they are ripe, wonder if they come true from seed? Since we don't have winter, wonder if cuttings would root now? I'm going to take a bunch this weekend, will let y'all know how they do.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

That so beautiful if it work rooting if not then if has seeds, I would love to have and will pay you postage.

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Susie:

I recently purchased two of these from the Home Depot and they currently have flowers and the yellow fruits. How can I tell when the seeds are ripe?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Delecie, I'm not sure. Maybe MaVie or someone will know how to tell when they are ripe. Mine has the little berries on it too, they are yellow.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

dang.....I like that one....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Me too Karyn, but I'm sure it is a tropical that I can't raise here. Love the color of the blooms.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Hummer and Riker, I was at a nursery about 30-40 miles north of here and found rooted plants in little pots(1801 size), they were 2.50each and I got you guys each one plant. Let me know if you want them. I went ahead and got them cause the nursery is too far just to run up there anytime. The plants are blooming.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Yes oh Yes! How awesome of you! I'll send you my address and we can arrange for postage monies.
Thank you so very much for thinking of me/us. That is so sweet.

Hee hee, I do that from time to time. When I'm out and about and see something hard to find that someone is looking for, I'll pick it up if it's a reasonable price. That gh has been there for a long long time, I'll have to go back when I have time to browse. I stopped there to ask directions! They have it stuffed full and in no particular order.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Waaaahhhhhh, Calalily, did you forget about me?

Molly
:^)

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Oh Molly, I'm so sorry. I will go back soon. I promise to get you one too. Did I forget any body else? I will check and see what else he has in small pots. Might be something we all need, lol.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Cala, is duranta erecta and repens the same plant? That is beautiful!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I'm not sure Weeds. Wonder who would know?

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

I WOULD say let's ask Cala but hmmmm, guess that is not an option.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Thank you Cala, I'll quit crying now. :^)

Molly

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I looked it up in my trusty A-Z encyclopedia or garden plants and they are the same.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

I knew you would come through! they root super easy.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Hint hint susie...they root easy!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

OK, I get the hint! How many want me to start a piece of my duranta for them??? I love sun coleus, will trade for those.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Calla, I have your sun coleus. I will have lots of it for you in June, unless you want it sooner.
My duranta needs to hang its head in shame. It is little and squatty, and has pale blooms. I sure hope it is a different variety cause if it is not it is in lots of trouble!

Montgomery, AL(Zone 8a)

Calla, you can bring mine to Roz's. Can't wait for our June blast.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Roz, I'll wait till June. I'll be sure and save room in the flowerbeds for lots of coleus. I think this duranta may be different from yours so I'll start you one.
Hummer, will bring yours to Roz's, I will put it in a bigger pot though so I don't have to water it twice a day like now in the little pot.

Montgomery, AL(Zone 8a)

Thank you Calla. By the way, both of my Hg's have buds. One has 7 or 8 and I did not know it until I looked yesterday.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I am so jealous, I've had that plant several years and NO BLOOMS! I go out and tell my plant every day "either you bloom or you're gator bait" and it just sits there, nice and green but no flowers.

Montgomery, AL(Zone 8a)

I picked a pod off of gloden lady yesterday. My 2 pods on Hg, one with your name on it, are taking their time getting ripe. They are both full of special little seeds. Maybe we can get a better bloomer out of them.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It would be really nice to have that color on a good bloomer, that's for sure!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Cannot wait til June; hope to have lots of coleus we have never seen before, thanks to Kyle's help with the website.
