looking for hops vine
Hi gg, I'm planning on getting hops also. I was going to order it from Pinetree - they have the one I'm looking for. We had a vine growing wild back home and we would pick the hops every fall for our old bus driver! Just a neat memory.... check out Pinetree if no one has it for you.
Thanks for the memory! I know it grows like a weed once established so I didnt think it would be neccasary to buy it. Well...... we'll see. lol greta
I have it but its not up yet so I can't tell whee to dig yet....remind me in a few weeks.....
Thankyou! I dont have anything up yet either cept the witch hazel is blooming. I guess Im starting all these trades cause Ive got cabin fever. Willl e mail you in a couple of weeks! Thanks for sharing, and Ive got quite few plants in my acre and a half so let me know what youre looking for. Greta
for a trade ...do you think you could root a witch hazel for me?I've always wanted one......
I have hops, leafing out, Cascade is the cultivar. I am interested in any herbs or vines.
I am starting a varigated japanese hops which I ordered from a rare seed cataloge. Supposedly it is rare. So far, the seedlings are doing well. They have sprouted and are already putting out their first set of leaves. The seeds had to be stratified, something I don't always get to work, so I started the whole pack. To my surprise, Almost evry one sprouted. So unless something unforseeable happens I am going to have way too many. The foliage is white and green. I have included a picture. Please let me know if you are interested. If they do well, I have no problem sharing for the price of postage.
Wow! Thanks for the replies, its been a rough week, have had that Norwalk virus. Pinetree isnt far from where I live which is nice....
Crested chick How would I propogate the witch Hazel? Its a small tree and its blooming, would I cut you a branch? I havent a clue about how to do a woody branch.... or a green shoot after blooming? any advice. Its a hybrid, arnold something or other, not common wild witch hazel. Can check on this for you.
CWBYNCMH what a name!!!!! Do you have a nickname? Your vine looks very special. Let me know how that goes... sounds like a great plant.
Dough448 I have many herbs, and am always collecting more, whats your wish? I have butloads of penny royal comfrey, different mints, and others but my yaRD IS STILL DORMANT SO LET ME KNOW WHAT YOURE looking for. Also have about 6 ft long wysteria vine that has returned from a previous gardener and I dont know the flowers future color. Common I would assume as its from an old root stock. OOps, hit the caps lock. Thanks for all the replies! I am so grateful! Greta
Greta - glad to hear you have a wysteria. All the catalogs say z5 and I'm also z4b so I'm hoping I can grow one. Just love their flowers!!
I don't know much about rooting a witch hazel either but just wondered if it would work to bend a branch to touch the ground and anchor it there. That works for my currant bush so I thot I'd mention it. Maybe you could ask in the trees and shrubs or propagation forums. Or do a search the forums... :)
CWBYNCMH stands for cowboy in Columbus. I am originally fro Oklahoma City. The specs on the hops vine I mentioned are as follows.

They carry unique and hard to find seeds. esp. heirloom varieties
If you have any more questions please just ask. I did not know you could get a perenial hops vine. If you are still interested please let me know.
By the way, you can call me Cowboy. :)
If anyone is interested in having some of my hops vines, please let me know. I believe they are large enough to ship now. I have planted a few outdoors and they are adjusting well. I will post pictures soon.
Cowboy, I'd really like to have a hops vine. The only things I have up to trade are Globe Thistle, Tiger Lilies, Black Currant, Campanula, Rhubarb and Oriental Limelight Artemisia (if I can get them out, just discovered they have very long, deep runners to the mother plant!) Postage would be great too. PLMK Thanks!
Kooger,
Would be interested in the Campanula. What variety/color is it?
I'm not sure of the name - actually I have one and so does my neighbor, which has now seeded in my garden. I'm quite sure her's is glomerata - with the ball of purple/blue flowers at the top. Mine is more up and down the stem with a little more flowers at the top, same color. I prefer the glomerata type and they volunteer easily so I have quite a few babies up.
That should be fine. I have always wanted some in my garden, but have had no luck so far. I was thinking of buying a plant, but have not seen any this year. Please e-mail me with an address to send the hops vine plants.
Cowboy, I would love to get in on the hops vine, can do postage.
Thx, Dixiechick

Dixie,
No problem, just forward mailing info. Keep in mind that in your zone, it may not be an anual and possibly invasive. Not sure. You might have to keep an eye on it. LOL
Cowboy, you have mail
thx, Dixiechick
Oh I'd love a start or two.PLMK Thanks, Jody
Jody,
No problem. Please send me the address. I will send stuff out to everone who has inquired this Monday when I get into work. I want to make sure they are properly packed for shipping on Sunday. I would hate for any of you to be dissappointed because your plants were mangled.
I see in one of your other threads that you have Dutchman's Pipe seed. I have been looking for that for a shady side of my house. Can you spare some?? .
-Cowboy
Cowboy,if you have any extra of the variegated seedlings let me know, you can look at my trade list here at Daves
Crested,
I sure do. To tell you quite honestly, I am shocked that so many sprouted. I only wanted a couple for a corner of the yard. Those butter and eggs sure look tasty on your trade list, if there are any left. Please send me an address for mailing.
