My husband just bought me this plant. You captured the beautiful flowers tones perfectly. Nice photos.

are you certain it is a dentata and not a stoechas?

DeepRoots, I just looked at my tag on the one my husband just bought me that resembles Happenstance's plant shown here. It states that mine is French Lavender (UK), Spanish Lavender (US), Lavendula stoechas. I have Fringed Lavender, French Lavender (Lavandula dentata) at least that's what I think it is and the blooms are much longer and narrower than the ones shown here. Of course, I may have misidentified mine.

Happenstance, there are so many lavenders, IDing them can be a bit confusing. I am no lavender expert. What do you thinK?

DeepRoots -

I am certain of very little in life. :-) And I think you are correct. I have both kinds and did this from memory.....so much for the memory!

Terry - you make the call, but I think it needs to be moved.

well, to my understanding, stoechas has flat straight leaflets, whereas dentata (meaning toothed) has notched leaflets.

In my experience dentata's have flowers that resemble latifolia and angustifolia whereas stoechas have the big pineapple lookin flowers as shown above.

hmmm, I prolly shoulda bought that lavenders book :-)

My photos on the Lavandula dentata page are incorrect. I don't know what it is. They will be removed. I am glad this came up. Like I said, I am no lavender expert ... obviously. I prolly shoulda bought that lavenders book too, drew! :-)
