got my printer and have some questions

I got a hewlet packard photo smart 7660, whew, still trying to figure it out. LOL we do alot of paper copying, for homeschooling, kids don't write in their book, I noticed that only black on the right side is inwith the photo ink cartridge, and there s a section on the left side for back up ink, If I wanted to print off a black and white sheet of paper say with multiplications on it, would the black ink come out of the photo ink cartridge, or the left side where' there's black and grey, in k that I still have to buy yet. LOL still reading, but can't find anything out about this,

Also, I have a scanner, that doesn't have the usb ports on it, I can't hook my new printer up through my scanner, so the two can work together, like I use to have my old printer and scnner hooked up lke that, one end of the cord is going to have to be like the cord is now, has the two screws on each side of it, and sticks in this long hole screws in , the other end is going to have to have a usb connection on it. do they make this. I'm so not computer savvy. I hope I didn't confuse anybody
