That was fast! Only 11 days ago did it begin to emerge, according to the photo record here. I like the yellow centers, they really liven up the blooms. I have 3 tiny seedlings now!

I think it was 12 days from the first photo because it was not posted on the day I uploaded it. I took the series of photos because of its quick emergence and the stages the blooms go through during the process. I have always found the blooming procedure of this plant fascinating, especially how the color finally comes nto the blooms. I observe it everyday. Its like magic. Thanks for your comments. Today, there are a total of 5 blooms open. I have an amaryllis that had no bloom stem a week or so ago and the bloom is just starting to open with another bloom stem appearing. It is a fast little guy too. Thanks for your comments.

Yes, amaryllis must hold the record for fast blooming, or maybe surprise lilies (Lycoris). They are in the amaryllis family, too, I think. Here is one of mine I took last week:

That is a huge plant. The color is so pleasing. I am amazed with the amaryllis too. I wished I had taken day by day photos of it. People who have never grown amaryllis have no idea how magical they are. From just the leaves to this in a week or so ...

Is that growing in the ground? It would be wonderful to get mine out of pots...I have a friend who (out of ignorance and sheer luck) planted hers by a southfacing masonry wall and it has lived and bloomed 2 years now. I would be afraid to try that here at my place. But with global warming...who knows!

No, it is in a pot. But, many people plant the red ones in the ground. I am not sure what the bloom color is because this one was giving to me by neighbor's mother who lives in Louisiana.
